David James (goodreadscomdavid_james) | 32 comments I would suggest that lovers of the Victorian novel read The Confessions of Becky Sharp, not just because I'm its author but because it offers a new slant on that most feisty heroine of WM Thackeray's Vanity Fair. Dickens and Mrs Gaskell appear in the book which tells the true story of Becky and refutes the slurs of 'that creeping hypocrite' William Makepeace Thackeray.

Sam Books by Mika Waltari. I have read Sinuhe the Egyptian which was set not only in ancient Egypt but in other places too.

I loved Shadows of the Pomegranate Tree and want to read other books.
