Kelsey | 11 comments Looking for a book I read sometime between 2008 and now. It was a mystery set in Los Angeles--it may have been the first book of a series, but I'm not positive.

I remember the female protagonist lived with her great-aunt (or another female relative) in some sort of community, and at one point *SPOILER* there was a bomb or some sort of other activity that threatened in the community.

The male protagonist is a cop or private detective of some sort.

Definitely marketed as chick lit. It is not the Gemma Halliday High Heels series (Spying in High Heels etc).

I know it's not a lot to go on, but any suggestions?

There's also the Gemma Halliday Deadly Cool series - did you rule that out?

The Jenny B. Jones Charmed Life series?

Phone Kitten?

I haven't read any of these so these are just guesses.

But we need to clarify how old the female is - is she in high school? Because "chick lit" normally refers to women in their 20s and above.

Angharad | 99 comments I haven't read these, but possibly Susan Kandel's Cece Caruso books? I Dreamed I Married Perry Mason is (I think) the first in the series.

Kelsey | 11 comments None of those so far ...

The female is definitely in her 20s/30s, well beyond school (and university). I think she moved in with the relative either for safety or money reasons.

I feel like the woman wasn't a detective, neither as a professionally nor amateur, but I could be wrong there. I think she (or a friend) was the person being targeted, but I don't remember for what.

Thanks!
