Richard Parise | 5 comments Amazon allows authors to change their covers on their "eBooks" since the authors own the rights. Since Amazon has bought out Goodreads, why are your policies different? My cover on Amazon is different from the one on Goodreads. It confuses the customers. I could fix this in one minute but you won't let me. How can a Librarian do it when they don't know where the new cover is?

Amazon is a seller, on Amazon you offer a product and you can do whatever you want to taht product. Goodreads is a cataloging website, each entry in the database reflects the exact details for each edition, the fact that a book is an e-book not a paperback doesn't make a difference. A change in cover is change in details, so a new edition is added.

I don't understand this question. Do what?

How to set up default edition: http://www.goodreads.com/help/show/31...

I am not going to brows all your books in order to create more ACE. Please post link/ASIN/ISBN to each edition you need us to create ACE.

Richard Parise | 5 comments All I want to do is change MY cover to the new one that is on Amazon so that they match. Why do I need to ask a Librarian to do this simple task that will take me one minute? Why not just make all Goodreads' authors official Librarians as soon as they list a book then we can all do this ourselves without bothering others.

Because we do not change covers, but that is exactly what authors want to do.

If you wish your new covers to be on GR there is a way you can do it yourself. Add an alternate cover edition (a new edition, but adding a librarian note that it is ACE) and combine with the ones that already are in the database. See in the previous post how I have added one for Facebook Zombies. If you follow the second link you will see how to set the new editions as a default one.

Readers often shelf the exact editions they have, changing any information including covers would change their catalog and will no longer represent their physical or virtual library. So no change of covers, unless the book hasn't been published and no one has reviewed it.

No problem. Feel free to post request in this group, that is the goal of it and librarians don't mind adding new editions.

I thought I could change my cover any time I wanted like on Amazon. The first one I uploaded was an experiment. Now I am stuck until the Librarian changes it. My book is not published yet. June 2014. It takes a minute but you would think GoodReads would have the same policy as Amazon.

Paula (paulaan) | 7027 comments If a book has NOT been published / given out with that cover as an ARC then a cover can be changed but by an librarian only since Authors have abused the privilege and policy in the past.

GR is a book cataloging site and not a book seller, hence readers want the book / cover they read on their shelves NOT the latest edition /cover that they haven not read.

Thank you. I will wait until I publish it in June with the right cover because by then I might have a different cover. I placed one up today to see how it would look. I thought I could try out a few. I will ask then for a cover change when it is up on Amazon.

Z-squared | 8580 comments Re 10, both the pb and kindle eds were already here under the wrong author profile. I have moved them, combined them, and updated their info as needed.

I have also added this book to your series page here:

Richard Myerscough | 4 comments I've just had my book re-edited and designed a new cover for it. All copies (of all forms)will now have this new cover. All of the ISBN numbers remain the same. What is the best/easiest way to get the new cover on Goodreads.

message 15: by Z-squared (new)

Z-squared | 8580 comments Richard, you will need to create what are called alternate cover editions (ACEs) for each reissued format. For an example of an ACE, see this book:

https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

When you create your ACEs, leave the ASIN/ISBN fields BLANK. Instead, put a statement in the description that includes the reissued ASIN or ISBN. It also helps to put a librarian note on the edit screen (in the yellow box at the top). Then combine your new edition with the old. Once they're combined, you can set whichever cover (edition) you'd like as the default by following the instructions here:

https://www.goodreads.com/help/show/3...

Alternatively, start a new thread requesting librarian assistance. Include a link to the new cover image and link(s) to the edition(s) here on Goodreads you want updated.
