My GOLDEN LEGACY is a mixture between Historical and modern mystery/adventure. The historical stuff takes place in 1888 and it is guaranteed clean. Take a look. Golden Legacy: A Kayla and Steven Young Mystery It is available in e-book or print.
I have just started the Maise Dobbs mystery series and enjoyed the first book. I'm hoping the rest of the series continues to be just as clean. Check it out. This series might fit the bill for what you're looking for. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/4...
Charmaine, I've read all the Maisie Dobbs books so far. There are, in my opinion, inappropriate sexual relationships involving main characters which I find discouraging because it is modern attitudes stuck in historical fiction by an author who has the ability to write intriguing stories and didn't need these modern ideas ruining them. However, there are no explicit scenes. So they are clean reads in that way.
EJ - well THAT'S a bummer! As I said, I've only read the first book. I've downloaded the next two in the series (audio books) from the library. I guess I'll give them a try and see how it goes. How about Anne Perry's "William Monk" series? Again, I've only read one book in this series (The Twisted Root) and, as I recall, it was clean.

Have you tried Kate Morton? Her books are stand alone but they are fantastic. I also love Alan Bradleys books - the Flavia deLuce series - the first being Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie.
Here is a Historical series that is clean:Free Men and Dreamers Series. The Author: Laurie L. C. Lewiswww.laurielclewis.com

Jane Kirkpatrick has quite a few historical fiction series. Of course I love everything she writes! When she was asked why there wasn't any sex in her books, she replied "I'm sure my characters have sex, they just don't tell me about it."
EJ wrote: "Thanks Lorna. Good comment. Wish all authors were that way."Hahaha, so do I, such a great answer! :]
I am concerned about Golden Legacy. I just read Murder Caribbean Style which I think is the first Kayla book and in my opinion it is NOT a clean read. I was very disappointed and wouldn't trust another by the same author.
Lorna wrote: "Jane Kirkpatrick has quite a few historical fiction series. Of course I love everything she writes! When she was asked why there wasn't any sex in her books, she replied "I'm sure my characters hav..."Yes, that's a great response - I'm going to remember that!

I included one love scene, which I felt was essential to the story, however, I promise there are no further love scenes in the other books. Golden Legacy is definitely clean, no love scenes, and the violence is mild.
Elizabeth Camden writes some good clean historical fiction. It's not exactly mystery. More adventure. I enjoyed Against the Tide the most.

Diane wrote: "EJ wrote: "I am concerned about Golden Legacy. I just read Murder Caribbean Style which I think is the first Kayla book and in my opinion it is NOT a clean read. I was very disappointed and wouldn'..."Diane, I appreciate your comment. I realize "clean read" is different person to person. For me, it isn't clean if lust is introduced right away and at least one of the characters is focused too much on it and acts on it. In my opinion, lust isn't love and sexual contact (even if not intercourse) without the committment of marriage is inappropriate. That was Kayla in my opinion. I was already wary before the love scene. At that point I stopped reading and just skimmed through to the end to find out the killer. I do wish you the best wishes for your writing carreer though and hope Golden Legacy is a good clean read.

I am sick to death of every genre including romance in the stories!

Have you read Eugenia Price? It's been years since I've read her books, but I remember them being clean, historical reads, set in the South.
http://alanbradleyauthor.com/Flavia deLuce mysteries are really enjoyable if you have a dry sense of humor.
And The Cadfael Mysteries by Ellis Peters are good. Perhaps you have watched a few on BBC. I remember "The Virgin in the Ice" was made into a movie, as were quite a few others.
