Dahlia (bookchick313) After successfully climbing Mount Blanc, I am now ready to climb Mt. Vancouver. I am ready to climb this mountain in record time with my ultimate goal for the year being Mt. Everest, but let's not get ahead of ourselves!

3 stars- This took me a long time to read, but I had a lot going on in my life at this time. Overall, it was a good read, and I'm glad I read it. It's a different take on the dog-human bond.

*purchased for Kindle in February 2013

Dahlia (bookchick313) 26) Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell Gone with the Wind by Margaret Mitchell*

3 stars-It's a good book but I much prefer the film. I also think it's a little over hyped. Plus, while I did expect to find racist elements in the book (after all, it takes place in the South during the Civil War), I didn't expect African Americans to be likened to gorillas (three times, I believe). I found that to be over the top and offensive. It's bad enough that the 'n word' is used several times. In contrast, it isn't used once in the film.

In short, I'm glad I finally read this classic after being a fan of the film for many years. However, I will probably never read this again and will instead opt to watch the movie.

Dahlia (bookchick313) 27) Beautiful Chaos (Caster Chronicles, #3) by Kami Garcia Beautiful Chaos by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl*

2 stars-Possibly the worst book I've read so far this year. I really regret starting this series now, especially since I still have one more book left. =/

*purchased for Kindle in February 2013

Dahlia (bookchick313) 28) Beauty Queens by Libba Bray Beauty Queens by Libba Bray*

3 stars-Over the top and a little too ridiculous (not to mention completely unrealistic and unbelievable). However, it had some funny moments. Plus, there are some really important and positive messages for teen girls.
*Purchased for Kindle in September 2013

Dahlia (bookchick313) 29) The Bone Season (The Bone Season, #1) by Samantha Shannon The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon*

3 stars-This was okay but not really anything special. I found my attention drifting a lot. I feel like it was jam packed with information which made it a little challenging to follow. I will not be continuing the series.

*Purchased for Kindle in December 2013

Dahlia (bookchick313) 30) Little Children by Tom Perrotta Little Children by Tom Perrotta*

3.5 stars-After reading some mixed reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect, however, I enjoyed this book. I did watch the movie many years ago before reading the novel. However, I wasn't sure how to feel about the movie after watching it and this book left me feeling the same way. I'm not sure that's a bad thing. For me personally, this book made me think. I feel that a huge theme of this book is perspective. Pretty much all of the characters are really unlikeable, but when you look at things from their perspectives, it allows the reader to feel some empathy towards the character, and possibly even relate to that person. I really enjoyed this and look forward to reading more from this author. I'm really wanting to watch the movie again. I may have to buy the DVD soon!

*Purchased for Kindle in August 2013

Dahlia (bookchick313) 31) The Color Purple by Alice Walker The Color Purple by Alice Walker*

4 stars-I enjoyed this more than I expected to. I watched the film years ago, but don't remember it very well. Now I'm excited to go back and watch it. This book is a lot more unique than I was expecting. I look forward to reading more from Alice Walker.

*Purchased for Kindle in November 2012

Dahlia (bookchick313) 32) The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen The Girl Who Chased the Moon by Sarah Addison Allen*

3 stars-This is enjoyable enough. Ironically, even though it's her least popular novel, nothing comes close to Sugar Queen for me.

*Owned for Kindle since summer of 2011

Dahlia (bookchick313) 33) The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne*

2 stars-I was engaged when I first started reading this, but that quickly came to a stop. I'm sure there's something to be gained from reading this. However, the execution is way too boring.

*Purchased for Kindle in September 2010

Dahlia (bookchick313) 34) Why Have Kids? A New Mom Explores the Truth About Parenting and Happiness by Jessica Valenti Why Have Kids?: A New Mom Explores the Truth About Parenting and Happiness by Jessica Valenti*

3 stars-This book is depressing, but makes some interesting and important points. I will have children someday. However, I'm happy to wait a few more years before taking that step.

Philip (pcav) | 12 comments I sure am impressed that you've gotten to within two books of completing Mt Vancouver--and you list includes Gone with the Wind!! Congratulations on all the reading you've done, and for pushing through so much of your TBR. I'm only at 6--I haven't exhibited the willpower yet to stick primarily with books from my TBR.

Thanks, Philip! I still could have done a lot better. I have read 58 books total so far this year. I wish I had the willpower to only read books that I purchased last year or earlier. However, there are just too many books out there!

Dahlia (bookchick313) 35) Pandemonium (Delirium, #2) by Lauren Oliver Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver*

3 stars-A decent read but nothing special in my opinion. Honestly, I'm not the biggest fan of YA dystopian. However, since I already own this, I wanted to knock it off the tbr pile.

*Purchased for Kindle in May 2013

Dahlia (bookchick313) 36) Requiem (Delirium, #3) by Lauren Oliver Requiem by Lauren Oliver*

3 stars-Once again, nothing special, but it was okay. I really enjoyed the passages from Hana's point of view. Also, the open ending didn't bother me the way it did most people. Of course, I usually enjoy open endings.

*Purchased for Kindle in December 2013

Woo-hoo! I just reached the peak of Mt Vancouver and now it's time for Mt Ararat! I wasn't able to conquer Mt. Ararat last year, but I have a feeling this year will be different.
