Michellechartanto | 19 comments The book that i read this week is woman in white. Its a very interesting yet mysterious book to read.
The story starts with a man named walter harthright who is a famous drawing teacher walking down the road normally in midnight when he suddenly saw a woman appeared from nowhere in front of him. She was a woman who dressed all in white and surprisingly just escaped the asylum. Though both of them were shocked and frightened, walter helped her search for a taxi to bring her home.
The next few days, walter was living in a mansion to teach a woman named laura. He was madly in love and so did she but they're love didn't stay forever since laura was forced to marry a man she didnt like named Sir percival. Walter knew and decided to move out for good
A few weeks later after they're marriage, laura and her sister Marian went for a walk in the park and lost her bracelet. She searched for it that night and a woman dressed in white saw her and gave it back to her. She wrote a letter about it to walter and he was surprised that she met the woman in white. And the story continues...

i have read this book and i rate this book 4.3 stars for the story and 3 .5 the topic of the story. This book shows the story of a young war reporter on her first job in an under siege city. The things she saw, the feelings she felt, the people she met and how, in the middle of all that mess, people turned to music as a way of escape. This is, just as in lots of other books, an opportunity to see how war really is, how devious and crooked people’s minds can be.

Travis Wijaya | 32 comments Trumpet Voluntary
When Derek Armstrong, a viola player in an up- and-coming string quartet, comes home one day to find that his Polish born, trumpet-playing wife has gone, and then the police turn up at his door the same evening asking awkward questions about her, his life spins rapidly out of control. He offends the members of his quartet by saying that he has to follow her immediately to Rio de Janeiro, especially Rachel, the cellist who, back in his student days, he once had an affair with. Arriving in Rio, Derek is befriended by a Brazilian woman, a Cuban detective and an English teacher who help him to find his wife, Malgosia, at the house of Tibor Arkadi, Derek’s past rival for Malgosia’s affections. Derek just catches sight of his wife, sick or injured, as one of Tibor’s men fires a gun at him. Days later, when Derek wakes up in a Brazilian hospital, he is told that Malgosia has been flown back to her family in Warsaw. In grey, rainswept Warsaw, Derek arrives too late. Malgosia is dead, victim of some kind of radiation poisoning. In a state of bleak depression, Derek flies home to an uncertain future, and is immediately arrested. Under pressure from Rachel’s lawyer mother, the police have to release Derek. He knows nothing about the fact that his wife had been seeing Tibor on her ‘retreat’ trips to Scotland, or that Tibor had used her to smuggle radioactive material in the valves of a trumpet. Rachel looks after him and Derek realises how much he likes her. But now he has to go back to Rio. And so Derek marries Rachel and is persuaded to write this first person narrative.

Emily Huang | 11 comments The book Aileen and I chose was "Solo Saxophone"
Looking out of the hotel window, I gazed at the beautiful sunset painting the sky pink. Mountains and hills rose all around the city of Sarajevo. They say that this place used to be a beautiful place to visit. However, it all changed when the war began. No living things seem to move in the silent, empty streets. Cars must be driven fast to avoid the snipers that are waiting to take down their prey. The majestic mountains and hills are now full of soldiers eager to spill some blood. The charming old buildings now looked as if they are collapsing. Bullet holes are scattered in their walls. below me, there is a ruined park. Trees stand barren without leaves. There is more mud than grass. Smoke rises from a building on my left and people cower in their doorless and windowless homes. In the distance, the high, sad sound of a solo saxophone calls out over the war torn city.
