That's okay, I think I'll manage. These tend to be pretty quick reads for me.
Okay, I finished this a couple of days ago, but am just getting around to reporting.ShoSho, I think Sam's being lost is freaking everybody out. She isn't acting at all like herself. However, when the trigger to get her back happened, I knew that would be it. I'm glad her staff turned out to be great, though.
When I first started reading, for a good third of the book, I thought the blurb was very misleading. Then things happened and I decided it was only partly misleading. Overall, I felt the crime side of things was not very strong. However, by the end Sam really showed growth and maturity, and I really liked that.

I haven't read much yet , I'm on chapter 5.
Although it's out of character for Sam to act this way, the writing is good and it is making me believe that this is a realistic reaction to what happened t her.
Very sudden, wasn't it? I was annoyed by how Gonzo was treating his partner, then I understood what was going on.
It was. (view spoiler)MF might not be a great mystery writer but she does a great job of writing emotions, relationships and human interactions. I'm loving this one. It feels like I'm reading a self-help book (in a very good way) When Will was talking about how he couldn't go on like this anymore and Jeanine told her it's not the right time to make life changing decisions.
The mystery wasn't great!(view spoiler)But I enjoyed reading this one more than the most. I thought that final showdown was the best suspect apprehension in the whole series! lol
Finally starting now! I quit reading another book I've been struggling with for the past week, what a waste of time and I only made it to 26%!! Can't wait to read about Sam and Nick!
ShoSho, yes they figured out the kniwfe attaks. It was essentially deciding how it would turn out and then finding evidence to fit. that part was very tacked on an unstasifying. However, this book is full of people dealing with the emotional toll of the job, and that was pretty well done.
Finished!GAH, I'm still crying.....this is my fave book of the series so far. All the emotional feels.... Arnold...Gonzo...sniffle....Freddie and Elin was a soft touch thrown in when I needed it....the Inauguration festivities w/Sam was great...and Scotty, I love that boy!
But one thing that rubs me the wrong way this is Andrea, the (view spoiler)
In figure blonde barbie will get her own romance someday. She came up too many times not to be the focus at some point.

I think Sam just doesn't like her because she guards Nick. If she had a different job, she wouldn't worry about her looks.
Lara wrote: "yes they figured out the kniwfe attaks."Are you sure? I went back and skimmed over the last few chapters. The last thing that was mentioned about the knife attacks was the part Sam told Lindsey to check Androzzi's DNA against what they had on the knife victims. And in the epilogue when his charges were mentioned there was nothing about that.
Their theory that this guy wanted to kill the graphic designer but to distract the police had killed a few other people first was so ridiculous and yes very unsatisfying!
I'm pretty sure. I recall that they found some evidence he was at some of the scenes. But, I think it was confirmed in just one sentence and they went on. Finding the moment would take too much time for me right now as my tablet crashed and I'm still traveling.

Inauguration day is almost here…
Lieutenant Sam Holland is on leave, recovering from an attack that shook her to the core. With no case to distract her, she's trying to stay busy—even voluntarily meeting with her new White House staff. But it's not enough to keep the horrific memories at bay, and her family is worried…especially her husband, Vice President Nick Cappuano.
Nick is dealing with his own demons where his wife's safety is concerned, losing night after night of sleep as he works to make sure what happened that day will never happen again. The pressure is building inside the Cappuanos' marriage, and something's got to give before Nick takes the oath of office.
When two college girls go missing in the midst of inauguration madness, the chief of police needs the one cop he can count on to find them and save the Metro PD from disgrace. In a case full of ugly twists and turns, Sam will have to confront her past and find her strength again…before it's too late.
