Info: The book was a mystery, possibly suspense/thriller. It was the first in a series of four (possibly three) books. The main character is a teen girl possibly named Sam. She has a friend either named Barbra or Barbie, that is homeless and this girl hangs around another homeless girl that at some point dyes her hair green (this one is a runaway). The man who murdered Barbra/Barbie is trying to either buy or sell a car from/to Sam. Sam's boyfriend is considered a "jock". She has a male best friend with an Afro who becomes a love interest in the later books. Sams mom is a dispatcher for the LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department), and tries helping out the runaway that hung around Barbra/Barbie. At some point a girl named Bambi is mentioned. At the end of the book, the mom realizes that she left the window open so the runaway could have a safe place to stay but the killer has climbed through the window instead. The killer ties Sam to a chair. The killer mentions at some point that his pants are starched. He also has a strange hobby of taking photographs of his victims/potential victims and distorting the images. After the first book, Sam breaks up with her boyfriend. Barbra was first lured into the killers car by offering to buy her some pizza. Her body was found in a dumpster. At some point (possibly the prologue) Barbra/barbie is on top of a car in the rain. Barbra/Barbie is killed within the first few chapters. The runaway at some point has brown hair instead of the green.
