Sebastian St. Cyr: Viscount Devlin, a former military man and spy. He's 29-years old and has dark hair and strange yellow eyes with the unnatural ability to see clearly at great distances or at night. Lord Hendon's only surviving son, they enjoy a very complicated and acrimonious relationship.
Hero Jarvis: Charles, Lord Jarvis' daughter. She's 25-years old and has light brown hair and gray eyes.
Tom: Young 12-year old pickpocket befriended by Sebastian. Now serves as tiger for Sebastian as well as assisting him in solving mysteries.
Charles, Lord Jarvis: Brilliant, ruthless man and cousin to the King. Completely dedicated to the preservation of the House of Hanover, he is considered the power behind Prinny's (Prince Regent) weak Regency due to King George slipping into madness. Hero's father.
Alistair St. Cyr: Fifth Earl of Hendon and father of Sebastian and Amanda. Currently the Chancellor of the Exchequer, in his late sixties with deep blue eyes.
Lady Amanda Wilcox: Oldest of the St. Cyr siblings, sister to Sebastian. Her husband drowned as he was attempting to murder Sebastian. He had already murdered several people.
Stephanie Wilcox: Amanda's daughter, Sebastian's niece.
Paul Gibson: Former army surgeon, an Irishman who shared the battlefields with Sebastian where he lost a leg. Unmarried, he works out of a small surgery at the base of Tower Hill and shares his knowledge of anatomy at St. Thomas and St. Bartholomew's teaching hospitals. He frequently assists St. Cyr, his friend, with his murder investigations and provides an invaluable source of knowledge. He's 32-years old slim, dark haired and of medium height and has an opium addiction.
Sir Henry Lovejoy: Chief magistrate at Queens Square, Westminster. He calls for Sebastian's assistance in cases involving the aristocracy.
Sir William Hadley: Chief magistrate at Bow Street, put in charge of the Magdalene House investigation by Lord Jarvis.
Colonel Bryce Epson-Smith: One of Lord Jarvis' agents, ruthless and intelligent.
Joshua Walden: Member of the Society of Friends who helps run the Magdalene House.
Margaret Crowley: Matron at the Magdalene House.
Rose Jones: aka Rose Fletcher. Young woman staying at the Magdalene House. Real name is Rachel Fairchild.
Jules Calhoun: Sebastian's new valet.
Grace Calhoun: Jules' mother.
Morey: Sebastian's majordomo.
Madame LeClerc: Sebastian's cook.
Ian Kane: Owner of the Orchard Street Academy, a brothel. He's also a painter.
Miss Lil: Abbess of the Orchard Street Academy.
Luke O'Brian: One of Rose's customers, a successful trade merchant.
Tasmin Poole: Jamaican prostitute who works at Orchard Street Academy.
Hessy Abrahams: Prostitute who worked at Orchard Street Academy.
Hannah Green: Young woman who came to Magdalene House with Rose.
Mary Driscoll: Harpist as Orchard Street Academy.
Georgina, Lady Sewell: Rachel Fairchild's older sister.
Henrietta, Dowager Duchess of Claiborne: Lord Hendon's sister, Sebastian and Amanda's aunt.
Basil Fairchild: Rachel's father.
Tristan Ramsey: Betrothed to Rachel.
Kat Boleyn: Irish actress now toast of London. Former spy for the French. Sebastian's former lover who is now married to Russell Yates, a privateer.
Cedric Fairchild: Rachel's brother, recently back from the war.
Spencer Perceval: Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Thackery: Former pugilist who's the enforcer for Orchard Street Academy.
Jenna: Hero's maid.
Molly O'Keefe: Irishwoman who runs a lodging house in Covent Garden.
Maggie McQueen: Charwoman at Oakwood Street Academy.
Pippa: Cheesemonger's daughter.
John Bellingham: Man wrongfully imprisoned and who wants to be recompensed by the government.
Patrick Somerville: General's son whose friend went missing the night of the fire. Cedric's friend.
Max Ludlow: Patrick's missing friend, a Hussar captain.
