Rusalka (rusalkii) | 16703 comments For May, you will need to read a book with an animal in the title.

The name of the species of animal has to be in the title, not the name of the individual animal. Ie. Fido wouldn't count but The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time would. Breeds count too. So you could have Voyage of the Beagle or Silkie for example (but please explain to me like I am 5).

Sounds simple, but as you will see below, "All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others". Have fun!

General Rules:

1. The book may be in any format - paperback, ebook, audiobook.
2. The book may be in any genre.
3. The book may NOT be combined with the Year Long Chunkster Challenge.
4. The book must be read between May 1 to May 31, 2014 (based on your own time zone).
5. The challenge is for one book. You may read more books if you chose, but only the highest scoring book will apply.
6. The book must be 150 pages or more determined by the issue you read. If reading eBook or audiobook page numbers will be determined by the issue that comes up on a Goodreads search.

Setting:

Emperor Mollusk is a cephalopod from Jupitor that gets around inside an exto-skelleton he designed called a battlebot. He conquered Earth (Terra) in his younger days, and although he wants to quit being an Emperor and retire to his science - he is constantly forced to defend the Terrans from other aliens. I loved it.

Sounds terrific!

message 9: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 16703 comments I will accept mollusc with a K. I have seen it spelt like that many a time. If nothing else, Chrome tells me it's spelt right as mollusk and not as mollusc, but then it tells me spelt isn't a word and colour is spelt wrong. I didn't say it had to BE about an animal, just the name in the title.

ha ha ha. I think you will get a kick out if it, Rusalka and Mariab. I listened to the audio and it was terrific, but I also check out a copy from the library (to see if there was an author endorsement - NOT). I could have read the entire book and been just as happy with the story, but the narrator was the reason I even knew about the book. He stated that it was his favorite book that he had ever narrated.

Some of the characters in the story had me rolling on the floor and I listened to over 1/2 of it twice. If you have ever read Tarzan or watched Jurrasic Park, you will love Chapter 8-12.

Ruling, Rusalka? I chose not to because only one word of six in the title was in yellow. The rest of the words were white. It is like the setting - it either is or isn't? There was a battle in the jungle on a tropical islnd, but that is not where the whole story took place. I am okay with the points as is but I am willing to update if Meanie 2 says it is okay. :0)

message 14: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 16703 comments What is this? People not trying to get the best points? Title -yes
Setting - If it is more than "then we visited the jungle, then we went back to the city" ie, a significant thing happened in that setting, then go for it, but mentioning offhandedly you went to the beach for the weekend but no action/plot happened there does not.

Clear as mud?

Two of the four immigrant girls released from the detention center sing their native songs and imitate the British rock group Queen. Little Bee is among the group of four girls, but she is not a singer. She admires the girls who sing.
One of the guys in the immigration center dresses and sings like Queen, which is very fascinating to Little Bee.
