TLMB: Part 2: Chapters 10-19

Chapter 10 opened with Valyn, but he was eight and with a family that live in the forest. I was confused at first thinking this was a flashback but didn't understand his family. Then when the blind man shows up and saves his family from the Urughl I realize that the man must be Valyn. Can someone remind me how he was blinded again, I seem to recall it was after his fall from the tower. I guess his Slarn capabilities give him extra skills though.

I think I would have preferred it if the kind in this section had been "Val" up until his mother called him "Valyn." I was also confused...

At the end of the last book Valyn was fighting il Tornya, and Adare stabbed him in the back, then il Tornya cut across his face, through both eyes.

I kind of feel bad for Adare as she is very traumatized by the war with the Urughal which seemed to make her desperate to back il Torjna even at the expense of Valyn.

I love the chapters with Gwenna. I was confused about Valyn and his reintroduction too, and he seems to have turned into Daredevil! As for Amaera I was so mad at her dumb decisions in the last book that I still dislike her a lot. I love her serving woman though. Kaden seems like a non issue right now.

This is more like it. I like how he brought Vayln back personally. I think Stavely meant to confuse us, and did a good job of it. I was thinking Valyn was the prince until he said he was 8 years old. Then I thought it was a flashback, then Valyn showed up, and I was like..OK now whose this young Valyn? I thought it was a great chapter personally.

Adare continues to be awful, just like the last book. Kaden on the other hand isn't bothering me.

Gwenna's chapters continue to be the best though.

I'm going to be interested to seeing how Valyn meeting up with the Flea will go. I hope either less Adare moving forward, or that she finally gets a clue or at least some self control.

Yeah, was confused to and went through the same range of thoughts with Valyn's opening chapter. I like him a lot more as a bitter Zatoichi than his previous self.

Lot's more action in this section, less politicking. Heavy on Gwenna and Valyn. Let's hope this keeps up.

Gwenna is lots of fun, but she is kind of a dick. I mean, the resistance may be futile, but at least they are trying. Valyn is a dick, but at least his hatred is justified.

Yep, the encounter with The Flea (does anyone else keep thinking of Chili Peppers when they hear his name?) should be great.
