Ꭴuinn Wexler had a life of normalcy. He grew up with his younger sister, Verity, and was raised by his mother, Helena, and his father, Aaron. His family was fairly wealthy, and was liked by many people. It was when he was a young child, did Quinn began to hate his name. At around the age of five, a few older children in his neighborhood began to make fun of him. Quinten wasn't a very common name in their eyes. Of course, Quinn just brushed it off at first. But when the light teasing got persistent, he insisted that people call him Quinn. Ꭿs the years went by, he'd only met his grandparents a couple of times. Verity was able to see them more often than he did, and whenever his grandparents visited, he could tell that they cared for her a bit more than him. At the time, he didn't really care that much. He was still a little too young to care about those kinds of things; just at the age of seven.Ꭿ year later, he was told that his mother had developed pancreatic cancer. Quinn, along with his sister and father, were devastated by the news. Despite, the sudden depression that fell upon his family, they each tried to help his mother get through her cancer. Unfortunately, she died, but survived for three years beforehand. Her funeral took place a month after her death.Ꭴuinn's father became unstable soon after his mother's funeral. He became depressed and rarely spoke to Quinn or Verity. That's when his grandparents stepped in. They could tell that something was wrong with his father, and took Verity away from him. His father never protested or did anything to stop them. They didn't take Quinn. When he asked them, "Why not me?" they answered with something along the lines of being too old to take care of two.Ꭿfter being left with his father, Quinn made sure to be careful around him. A few months after Verity left, his father began to lash out at random times, seemingly having nothing better to do. Quinn tried to approach him a few times- maybe to try to break his father out of his haze. But it was only when his father came home one night, drunk and confused, did Quinn learn to stay away from him. His father had beaten him until he tired himself out and went to his room.Ðespite his father's abuse, he tried to concentrate on the good parts of life. At his school, he made a few friends and was happy that he wan't being teased about his name anymore. In his last year of middle school, he first realized that he liked boys in a way he wasn't supposed to. At first he didn't tell anyone about it. But after a while, he told one of his closest friends- Miranda Quimby. After telling her, he wished he'd kept it a secret. Miranda ended up spreading the information to as many people as she could reach. Quinn was bullied for it, and the people who used to be his friends left him, because of it.Ꮛven when the bullying died down a little once he got into high school, he had a hard time coming to terms with himself, and still does.
