Virginia Rand I'm currently working on a collection of erotic stories and I'm really excited to publish it, but I can't afford a professional cover. I'm going to get one as soon as I can, but do you think it's worth making a placeholder cover so I can publish it before I can afford a better one?

I'm not waiting till the book pays for it's own cover, I know this probably won't earn enough for a box of tea bags because I don't have any followers and I can't exactly ask family to buy copies. It's just that renewing the car insurance has drained all my disposable income. :-(

Wren Figueiro | 216 comments Don't see why not. You can do a lot with photoshop. Or check on fiverr maybe.

Virginia Rand Yay, I did it! Here it is!

It's porn, so 18 and over only.

Lol thanks for the viewers discretion Virginia.

Virginia Rand You can't see much on the amazon page (except a mention of lesbianism) and the word erotica is in the title, but it never hurts to be careful. :-)

I'd also like to note that this is a good idea because you have every intention to go back when you have the money to create a better cover. Too many authors go in blind thinking they can just throw a cover together and they're good to go. Its only later on that they aren't making sales or they receive comments on the poor quality of their cover that they decide to change it.

This is a good way to say "I plan on getting a professional cover later but In the mean time I'm also not going to just throw something poorly together. I say yes to placeholding as long as you remember and plan to change it down the road.
