I liked the whole book, but there were some parts of this part I found particularly interesting.
So Hugo is a terrible person. The author did a really good job of not making you hate him too much though. When he's facing the decision of going with the Anchorites or going back to Holly, I found myself wishing he'd choose Holly, despite the fact that he's a terrible person.
How much of the events of the story do you think are manipulated by the Anchorites? They must have set up the phone call from the investigator to Hugo's parents, and maybe they even set up the suicide of Penhaligon(?). Also, did they set up the prostitutes with Hugo's friends to drive him to desperation?
