Chapters 5-6 (view spoiler)[I feel so bad for Amatis. I don't trust Sebastian at all, but I have an absolutely wild theory about him.

So, we are all kind of in agreement that Jace and Clary are endgame, and therefore not siblings, but what if Sebastian is actually her brother? I mean, that would explain both the strong pull and that he looks familiar (maybe he resembles Valentine or Jocelyn). And Clary/the author keep comparing him to Jace, who Clary believes is her brother. Idk, even as I'm typing this out it seems insane but it's a thought that popped into my head while reading. Chapters 6-7 (view spoiler)[There are a couple more lines that appear to confirm my theory, so I'm thinking that it might not be so insane. And even if it isn't true, I definitely think that Sebastian is in kahoots with Valentine.

"Well, yes, but Jace is his son. And he was just a little boy. I think Valentine did love him, in his way--"

"No." Sebastian's voice was sharp. "I'm afraid that's impossible."

Like, that's such a strange thing to say to someone. Also, the fact that Clary felt "a sudden jolt of horror" when kissing him may be because they're siblings.

If he was in league with Valentine, that would explain both why he is so eager to get close to her (might I even say, to seduce her), and why Magnus was suspicious of him (as Clary said, he seems to have really accurate intuition).

Also, I'm starting to wonder if Isabelle and Simon will be endgame, based off of how much she seems to like him. (hide spoiler)]

(view spoiler)[ I felt terrible for Max throughout when he kept getting ignored and now that he’s dead I bet his family all feels the same way about how they treated him. I liked Max although he didn’t really play a part in the plot. Also I feel the same way about Hodge telling Jace before he was dying. There were a lot of foreshadowing and clues throughout that Jace isn’t really Clary’s brother, I mean they look nothing alike. Sebastian was always sketchy and I had a feeling he was related to Valentine in some way or another. I still can’t believe Valentine would feed demon blood and angle blood to his own children. Ch. 7-8 (view spoiler)[Ohhhh, we'll get to see some of Valentine's secrets! And I wonder who Samuel really is (because there's no way that that's his real name). (hide spoiler)]

Ch. 9-10 (view spoiler)[We find out that Magnus is een older than we thought, which makes him and Alec's relationship even weirder. I mean, 800 and 18? Also, this ending is bad, this is very bad. (hide spoiler)]

Ch. 15-16 (view spoiler)[Well, I feel vindicated - Jace is indeed doing something stupid. Also, I'm glad that Clary is finally using her powers. (hide spoiler)]

Ch. 17-18 (view spoiler)[What on earth is going on with Simon? What is the "first mark?" And also we haven't gotten the aftermath of the Alec-Magnus kiss, and I am incredibly nervous for that. And Valentine said "Malachi has failed." Does that mean Malachi is working with Valentine? (hide spoiler)]

Ch. 19-Epilogue (view spoiler)[I feel like not taking the Seelie Queen's favor was a bit of a mistake that will come back to bite them. It's funny how everyone is fine with Jace and Clary dating as long as they're not blood relations, so the fact that Valentine is Jace's adoptive father is fine. (Also ngl I'm super proud that I predicted that.)

To be honest, I think that I like this book more than the other two. It felt less like a prequel, and more like the actual book. Plus, since the war with Valentine is over, Clary will probably get some training in the next book. (hide spoiler)]

I think that we should read it in publication order, because it's both the one that Cassandra Clare herself recommends, and the one that just seems to be generally recommended.

(view spoiler)[ I agree with you on liking this book so much more than the first two. Clary is actually starting to play into the protagonist role. I can't wait for her to get more training. I wonder if Sebastian is actually dead since they couldn't find his body. I like Jace and Clary together but I know what you men about how its weird that everyone just accepts it.But I think everyone knew about their feelings toward one another. I'm so happy that Luke and Jocelyn are finally going to be together. I can't wait to see how they all develop in the next books and how Jace and Clary advance their powers.
