K B (kbcook) | 182 comments I read The Canticles of the Christian Church, Eastern and Western, in Early and Medieval Times, by James Mearns because I'm always interested in the history of the church and its liturgy and hymnody. In our modern thinking, we think "new is better" when actually what is right from the foundation of the church is better. Lex orandi lex credendi -- as we worship, so we believe.

K B (kbcook) | 182 comments Tried by Fire: the story of Christianity's first thousand years, is one of the best, if not THE BEST, church history books I've read. Bennett's narrative of Church history and the biographies of the Church Fathers is exceptional and goes for the deep-stuff of their lives and how they affected national histories in the process. 5-stars on all counts!
