Mmlinder1 Might be considered a YA book. Fictional, mystery. I read it approx 35 years ago. It was about a mother who believes her son died on a field trip in a school bus accident. She gets a message on her computer screen that he's still alive.

Leslie Meakin | 34 comments Could be "After The First Death." It was published in 1975 so timing is right. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8...

MJ | 1617 comments I didn't think it was that old, but looking at some of his published dates, it could be. Dean Koontz has a book where the mother starts getting messages from her son who died on a school trip. I read it a long time ago, so I can't remember the name, but think she might connect with another parent from the trip. Being DK's, there's PRN. Think the kids name was Danny/Daniel? And there's something about him writing his name on a chalkboard for her to see...?

Vicki | 9 comments Is this it? Hide and Seek by Clare Sambrook.

"Told from the point of view of nine-year-old Harry Pickles, Sambrook's debut deals with the aftermath of the disappearance of Harry's younger brother, Daniel. Harry and Daniel are on their way home from a school trip to Legoland when their bus pulls into a rest stop. Daniel never returns to the bus and his absence isn't discovered until the bus returns to London. Harry's parents are devastated, and Harry blames himself for not keeping track of Daniel. As the days go by and Daniel is not found, Harry and his parents must return to some semblance of a normal life, something they find virtually impossible. Harry finds himself at odds with some of his oldest friends, and his parents are growing further and further apart. It isn't until his distraught mother commits a shocking act that Harry's family starts to rebuild itself. Sambrook does an admirable job of capturing the sometimes disjointed and often raw thoughts of a nine-year-old in her moving debut"

Perhaps you saw Leigh Nichols (Dean Koontz' pseudonym) as the author of this book?

message 10: by Mel (new)

Mel Wilson | 9 comments No it was definitely Dean Koontz. I own the book, and had never heard of him having a pseudonym until today when someone else mentioned it.
