Wolfgarr | 10 comments read this book couple years ago and can not for the life of me find it again.

I believe it was part of a series.

Basic plot..

military men/woman are sent out to a planet the ??empire?? is crumbling
The planet they are sent to is full of norse/sweedish people and the climate is quite cold.

If i recall right..These ??marines?? go out on missions to different planets/stations etc. But their main base is the planet mentioned above.

Not much to go on, sorry about that..Just hope this rings a bell for someone .

edit. No it is not "The Empire's Corps" series ..But it is quite similar.

Peter Meilinger | 469 comments Do you remember any details about their missions? What kind of weapons they used? Were there aliens, or was the whole empire human only?

Are they restricted to what kind of warfare they can take part in--advanced tech, stone-age etc. Any memory of what their tech is like generally?

Probably not it, but the most famous of the Military Sci-fi series is the Dorsai series.Dorsai!--could it be one of the books in this series?

Another famous military sci-fi writer is Rick Riordan Could it be something by him?

John Scalzi is another of the military sci-fi writers. Could it be one of his books?

sadly not at this time, i think their main base is on a planet with ether Norse/Sweedish people who colonized the planet. There is Future tech involved. Drinking in a specific pub by the troops. The main characters only use this planet as a base.. But quite a bit of the story does take place there. interactions with the people etc. Pretty sure this is a multi book series.. Pretty sure it involves collapse of the main government for the galaxy (not 100%)

no not scalzi ,. or riordan or dorsai.
