Agnes Szalkowska | 386 comments hi

I was thinking about small chat on Skype Where we can discuss and better know each other.
What you think?

message 2: by Alyssa (new)

Alyssa | 1 comments Yesssss. We should!

message 3: by Robert (new)

Robert Kafadar isn't Google hangout better for group chat

Agnes Szalkowska | 386 comments I was thinking about video chat

message 5: by Kamille (new)

Kamille Eisen | 16 comments I want to participate, I just think we have to work around the time zone thing :)

Skype or Hangouts is fine, but I think Hangout holds more participants, doesn't it?

message 6: by Jess (new)

Jess Catanese (jess_cat105) | 12 comments I vote hangouts, a lot easier to work then skype

message 7: by Tracy (new)

Tracy I've only used skype, and only a few times. I'd say whatever is easier.

message 8: by Robert (new)

Robert Kafadar Hangouts is better. Timezones always screw someone. But we should pick topics of conversation before we do this.

Agnes Szalkowska | 386 comments Hangout it is ;)

message 10: by Myrthe (new)

Myrthe (myrtheasdf) | 32 comments I'm in as well! :)

message 11: by Agnes Szalkowska (new)

Agnes Szalkowska | 386 comments Ok just downloaded this app ;)

message 12: by Maria (new)

Maria (mariakeepsreading) | 17 comments sounds cool, id like to join! never had a group videochat over hangouts though..

message 13: by Ashley (new)

Ashley | 4 comments I think that is a great idea. This bookclub should really be an opportunity to get to know people around the world as well as a learning and reading opportunity :)

message 14: by Arvenig (new)

Arvenig | 24 comments Wow I thinks it's a really great idea!!
I was thinking... I don't know Hangouts but I know that on skype we can chat too so if we create a group we can chat and plan videochats

message 15: by Arvenig (new)

Arvenig | 24 comments I just checked it out and there are chats.

Are we going to post our emails here so people can add us to the chat?

message 16: by Agnes Szalkowska (new)

Agnes Szalkowska | 386 comments I don't know ether how this hangouts works. First time using this.

message 17: by Arvenig (new)

Arvenig | 24 comments It seems really easy

message 18: by Myrthe (new)

Myrthe (myrtheasdf) | 32 comments So how about one person organises this, and everyone who wants to join can send them a pm with their e-mail address? Or is there another way without having to share e-mail addresses? I don't know anything about Hangouts, but perhaps someone else does!

message 19: by Kamille (new)

Kamille Eisen | 16 comments I think the best way to proceed with just is as above suggested. One person should organize and be responsible. Preferably someone who knows the app well.

I use Hangouts but to be honest I don't feel comfortable with it, so seldom have I used it. Does anyone have experience with it? Aren't there some tutorials on YouTube?

message 20: by Agnes Szalkowska (new)

Agnes Szalkowska | 386 comments Ok my email on hangout is szalkiria@googlemail.com

Do you want me to create the chat?

message 23: by Agnes Szalkowska (new)

Agnes Szalkowska | 386 comments Sure

message 24: by Kamille (new)

Kamille Eisen | 16 comments Are we going to schedule it? I think it's better so we all have time to set things and participate.

message 25: by Arvenig (new)

Arvenig | 24 comments I'll create the chat and then we can plan videochats on it!

Write the emails so I can find you!

Myrthe (myrtheasdf) | 32 comments I added you, Grace!

message 34: by Ashwin (new)

Ashwin (ashiot) | 215 comments Just a suggestion: Message each other your email ids privately through private message facility on GoodReads. Disclosing email id publicly can invite spam. Also, it is best not to disclose phone no; there are numerous security and privacy issues!

Patricia (evenxbreak) | 12 comments Ashwin wrote: "Just a suggestion: Message each other your email ids privately through private message facility on GoodReads. Disclosing email id publicly can invite spam. Also, it is best not to disclose phone no..."

that's the reason I didn't post my email yet. I want to take part in this, so who is responsible for the hangout? Can I message you my email?

You can message Agnes, Arvenig (you can find them on the first page of this thread), or me I think! One of us will add you as soon as possible.

Hello! Thanks for the suggestion!
Does anyone else want to use this? Should we remain only on hangouts?

message 42: by Arvenig (new)

Arvenig | 24 comments Juan wrote: "I'm interested in this. Who do I send my email to?"
You can write your email here or if you want send it to me privately, anyone can send me messages her on goodreads!

I'm so sorry!! I didn't know that... I think it's not right to "exclude" people that live in China...Any idea on how we can solve the problem?

I have never heard of blab.im, but if that one isn't blocked in China, perhaps that's an option!

I think by changing the IP address through a VPN there are several ways to do it. And last time I checked its is NOT ILEGAL to use a VPN in China. For the purpose of the VPN I think it could work with vpnbook.com and cyberghostvpn.com, those are free.

message 47: by Niamh (new)

Niamh Ennis | 28 comments So is there a date scheduled for this yet? I need to download/sign up to skype/blab.im though so please give notice.

message 48: by Arvenig (new)

Arvenig | 24 comments Niamh wrote: "So is there a date scheduled for this yet? I need to download/sign up to skype/blab.im though so please give notice."

So we started a chat on hangout (gmail) so if you want to participate just give us your email! We're also planning a worldwide meetup (both physical and online)

Myrthe (myrtheasdf) | 32 comments Niamh wrote: "So is there a date scheduled for this yet? I need to download/sign up to skype/blab.im though so please give notice."

For now, we're discussing and planning a date on Google Hangouts. If you want to join, send me a pm with your Gmail and I'll add you!

message 50: by Myrthe (new)

Myrthe (myrtheasdf) | 32 comments Hey everyone!

We have a date and time for the first online hangout, where we will get to know each other and discuss the first two books: February 27th at 6PM GMT! We think this is the best option to include as many time zones as possible, but if the time/date is a problem for many people we can, of course, still change it.
If you want to join, please send me a private message with your Gmail-account so I can add you to the group.
