The plot of this book mainly moves between Alabama and Colorado, briefly taking in Texas, Oklahoma and Mississippi. The majority is set in Colorado though.

I read and mostly enjoyed her Grant county series but felt it was running out of steam towards the end. Never tried any of the Will Trent ones.

message 13: by [deleted user] (new)

I preferred the Grant County series to the Will Trent ones, although to be honest there isn't really that much difference since Sara Linton is now in the Will Trent series and this one also features Lena Adams from Grant County!

Two new states in two days, I'm on a roll! #9 - KANSAS - Dark Places by Gillian Flynn Dark Places by Gillian Flynn.

Setting is fairly evenly split between Kansas and Missouri but Kansas takes it.

Very dark and twisted but I couldn't put it down. Finished it in about 3 hours.

#12 - VIRGINIA - Spares by Michael Marshall Smith Spares by Michael Marshall Smith.

Set in futuristic 'New Richmond' - a grounded flying shopping mall parked on the site of 'old' Richmond, Virginia. Not the usual sort of book I go for, it was kind of weird. But I enjoyed it.

#14 - UTAH - Riders of the Purple Sage by Zane Grey Riders of the Purple Sage by Zane Grey.

My first ever book read on Kindle app for laptop, and my first western. Feels like it's taken me forever to read this book - and it's only 140 pages! (I can usually do that in a couple of hours...)
Kept dipping in and out of it in between reading other books. It just didn't hold my attention. Fairly boring I have to admit but it was a freebie and it got me a new state so it's all good :)

#15 - LOUISIANA - In Silence by Erica Spindler In Silence by Erica Spindler.

Not the best book I've read by Erica Spindler, it really dragged in places.

message 21: by [deleted user] (last edited Jun 05, 2015 12:38AM) (new)

#16 - IOWA - One Breath Away by Heather Gudenkauf One Breath Away by Heather Gudenkauf.

The subject - intruder with a gun holding a classroom of kids hostage - should have made for a really gripping story but it all seemed a bit flat. I liked it but didn't love it.

I haven't been to a new state for a while as I've been busy either going 'around the world' or revisiting states I've already got, but this weekend I got #18 - TEXAS with a kindle freebie, Weddings Can Be Murder by Christie Craig Weddings Can Be Murder by Christie Craig.

So glad it was free! Total cheese-fest, like a 'Mills & Boon' romance with a couple of murders thrown in as an afterthought.

#19 - Las Vegas, NEVADA - Innocent in Las Vegas Innocent in Las Vegas (Tiffany Black Mysteries #1) by A.R. Winters by A.R. Winters.

Another kindle freebie, this was a light-hearted murder mystery, slightly derivative of Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum or Sue Grafton's Kinsey Millhone stories but readable enough.

More books set in NEVADA (view spoiler)

#20 - NORTH CAROLINA - Too Close to Home Too Close to Home (The Forensic Files Book 1) by Tressa Messenger by Tressa Messenger.

Yet another kindle freebie and I'm glad I didn't pay for it. About halfway through and it is littered with mistakes and sentences that make no sense! Not sure if the fact it's a kindle version is to blame or if the author just didn't bother with an editor? Only finishing it to count it towards this challenge.

11/10/14 - Finished. It didn't get any better.

More books set in NORTH CAROLINA (as a spoiler to save space) (view spoiler)

Not good news as it is my current choice for North Carolina. Maybe I'll find something else before my slow drive from West to East coast gets to the Carolinas. I hope you have a better read next time.

Kindle freebie with a ridiculous Romance/Comedy/Mystery plot. You get what you pay for I suppose!

#28 - NEW HAMPSHIRE - Leaving Time - Leaving Time by Jodi Picoult - Jodi Picoult.

For most of the book I was thinking I would rate it 3 stars but then I got to the ending and it bumped it up to 4 stars. Loved the ending, it made me want to go back and re-read the whole book. Not my favourite Jodi Picoult book but pretty good.

Don't think elephants were ever going to figure much in the Tennessee world of Cormac McCarthy.

Thanks. I'd say about 50% of the books I read are set in USA so of the three 'Geographical Challenges', this one's definitely going the best!

First in a new series featuring military investigator John Puller. Good but not great.

Kindle freebie. Melodramatic, repetitive and boring. Only read it to get the state.

Fairly decent romantic suspense. The suspense part was better than the romance.

Technically this book isn't really set in Hawaii as they spend most of the time in a submarine in the sea around Hawaii but I'm counting it - at least until I get something else.

24/8/15 - Lana'i of the Tiger - JoAnn Bassett - Lana'i of the Tiger by JoAnn Bassett . Not set underwater!
