He wrote a nice, short piece on combating Islamophobia when you are just a regular person.

That was great. I unfortunately hear entirely too much hate at my job but I often feel like speaking up to them doesn't help. They don't listen to what I have to say. For being supposed Christians, they're awfully hateful people at times.

I agree. You mightn't get through to the person you confront, but at least you are a counter argument for the people listening.
Say your piece, then walk away. Only continue if they are up for a friendly discussion.

Knowing some religous history in the US might help. E.g. Do you know it was legal to kill Mormons in Missouri from 1838 to 1976?Catholics were often treated very poorly in the history of this country.
Missouri didn't ratify the Emancipation Proclamation until 1995, either. We can't set our watches by the South.

The EP was an executive order that didn't need ratification, and you can't mean the 13th Amendment because Missouri passed that within five days of it being submitted to the states (and in fact a Missouri Senator is the one who proposed the amendment in the first place).

Missouri, Mississippi... they all look alike to me.(Gah. I hate whiffing on things like that. This is why I should always look something up rather than rely solely on my memory. "Post in haste, repent at leisure" indeed. Well, they can't all be winners. And I do appreciate being fact-checked. Keeps me honest!)
At least the Globe still has decent content. Because the longer this delivery mess goes on, the more tangled the whole thing appears to be. http://wgbhnews.org/post/delivery-dri...
