The book is rich in Chinese history, and the events or things that happened to women where horrific, it shows a lot of how women's rights have gone from noting and are slowly improving. There is also a tale of Jung Chang's great-grandfather who got sucked into high power and concubines, but he then found himself unhappy with all his wealth and concubines, so it kind of shows that even men couldn't be happy with what was expected of them.

Sounds really great! Maybe this will be one of the next books. When Emma will see the post, maybe she'll tell us her opinion. :)

It is a fantastic book, so much history and tragedy in it. I haven't read her other books but my one of my best friends has and says they are great, I think they are historical non-fiction.
