Have you read Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen?
I have tried to read Pride and Prejudice (2 times), but dropped after 40%.
But Northanger Abbey is gothic (one of my fav. genre.), so I was considering it.

I suppose these books are to you what Little Women is to me. I could never proceed beyound the first chapter for some reason or the other. But now the timing seems right for another attempt.
Maybe you should try too :)

Gee ^_^ thanks so much....I love all the non depressing classics :)

I concur!
I pushed through chapter one and looking forward to the next. I like it so far though it reads so far like a tale with a moral :)
Almost missed my stop today while travelling and raeding LW :PYes! Chapter 2 and 3 were that good.
Poor Meg burns her hair though..That such a dreadful real-life possibilty :(
Hehe that happens, when you become too engrosed in the book ;) but obviously understandable since the book is soo good!!!!And yes we dont want to see anyone's hair getting burned>_<
I am on 4th chapter, Emma got a new project *Harriet* :)
Yay....Yay.....Oh I am kinda jealous that you get to read a Jane Austen for the first time and I don't. Ever. Again. Pehli baar sirf ek baar hota hai "Sigh"
Enjoy the ride!
Steffi wrote: "I am so excited for you!"likewise :)
also you are reading little women for the first time.......so no need to be jealous :P
:) HeheheYeah...this is great. I reached the part when beth gets her heart's desire. A Piano and become friends with the Old Man.
Sorry I couldn't be online for two whole days. Work dreary work.
But I am waiting to hear from you. Where are you now with Emma?
Am on the 5th chapter.....Mr. Knightley is having coversation with mrs. Weston about Emma's and Harriet's friendship.....
I am trying to read as much as I can in this weekBecause I am very busy this weekend and cant be able to read at all
And now I am on the 9th chapter. The part where in Amy nearly drowns. There are observations in the book so keen and sharp in this chapter. Like the part where Jo discovers that her fierce temper is something that she had inherited from Marmee, which is such a surprise! It is always shocking to know that we might have inherited character strengths or flaws from parents or even grandparents. Or to realise they weren't as sober as they are now when they were young.
I am nearly half done :)Am on the part where Mr. Elton got married, jane was came to live with her aunt and Mr. Churchill made an appearance.......
