The Best First Novel You Ever Read

On the other hand, if you want something from an author who's still new enough that you aren't likely to have heard of her, I'd go with Touch, by Gayleen Froese.
I've heard that "Tithe" is great (and god knows she's gone on to fame & fortune) -- I'll have to check it out! I read 3 first novels this year--"Beautiful Children" and "Sharp Objects" and "The Godmother" but i am not jumping up and down about any of them.
I think mine was "The Lovely Bones". What about you guys?
