Beverly | 23 comments So this year I plan to add to my reading list one non-fiction book each month. This might be a biography, a theological text, or a bit of history. But this year I plan to season my fictional reads with at least 12 non-fiction books. I started 2 short reads over the Christmas break that I should finish soon.
One is a biography of Jane Austen and her books, and the other is by a local author, and is a creative history of The River. Next month will be our book club February read set in the Spanish Civil War. It looks interesting!
Hooray for adding the flavour of Non-Fiction to my year!

Beverly | 23 comments I have been doing some more thinking about my reading plans for 2016 as I have finished off the two previously mentioned non-fiction books, and have been devouring the new books that have come in by my favourite authors.
I have also decided that I need to make the effort each month to read a book on my "to-read" list that I chose because a friend gave it a high review or it was in my recommended reading list. I know this will probably stretch my comfort zone at times, and I am looking forward to being introduced to some new authors this way!
My first effort in reaching this goal for 2016 was to read "Girl Runner" by Carrie Synder recommend by a friend in St. Catherine who leads a book club. Glad I took to time to read it!

Wendy (wendyr-k) | 12 comments Our book club (the afternoon book club) is reading 6 biographies this year. Previously I have read the odd biography that has interested me, but this year I will be making an effort to read a few more.
At the moment I am reading "North of Normal" by Cea Sunrise Person. It is certainly an experience very different from my own up-bringing, but perhaps the more we read about other people's lives, the more we will be able to empathize with our neighbours. The world could always use more empathy!
