Here are my reading goals for 2016! They are subject to change of course, but this is my plan for now. I really want to focus on:

- Re-reading/finishing some of my favorite series
- Reading some of the books I own that I haven't read yet
- Trying some genres that I don't normally read

Series to Finish/Re-read:

- Unwind (4 books)
- His Dark Materials (3 books)
- Chaos Walking (3 books)
- Harry Potter (7 books)
- The Raven Cycle (4 books)
- Uglies (3 books)
- Leviathan (3 books)

Challenges:

- 10 Books I Own That I Haven't Read Yet
- 10 "Adult" Books: 5 contemporary, 5 classics
- 10 Graphic Novels
- 5 Nonfiction Books
- Read all the "Hidden Gems" for this group! (12 books)

That's already 74 books, and I'm sure I'll also be tempted by books outside my challenges. But even if I don't complete all my yearly challenges, I'm going to try to read at least 75 books. I'm probably being over-ambitious since I've barely been able to do 50 these past couple years, but I'm hoping the re-reads and graphic novels won't take me as long as other books. So, bring it on!

message 19: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie Elora wrote: "Great job! Question....I see you only have 4 books listed for the Unwind series. My library has 5.....is one of them a tack-on book?"

They might be including either of these UnStrung (Unwind, #1.5) by Neal Shusterman UnBound (Unwind Dystology Book 5) by Neal Shusterman
UnStrung is a short story, which was separately released but then also included in UnBound, which has several other short stories to give a bit of closure after the final book.

Ashley Marie I might add that UnStrung was released as an ebook while UnBound is a physical book ;)

great job, Brigid! I love the cover change on the Unwind series. I should really finish those books tho.

Yes, the new covers are pretty cool! I feel like the original covers capture the mood of the series a bit more though ... Maybe it's just because I'm so used to seeing them. :P

I understand what you mean. I was surprised to see the new ones in the bookstore. Thought it was a new series, but I prefer the ones I have. hehehehe...

I have to say I'm disappointed they changed the covers -- I've got the first 3 paperback in the old/purple covers and the only way I can get the fourth one to match is to get it in hardback >:( Not to say I dislike the new covers, but they could've at least released the full paperback set in the old covers before updating them.

2. UnSouled by Neal Shusterman
3. Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling (re-read)
4. The Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater (re-read)
5. Daytripper by Fábio Moon and Gabriel Bá
6. Blue Lily, Lily Blue by Maggie Stiefvater (re-read)
7. The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater
8. Star Wars: Before the Awakening by Greg Rucka

Challenges progress:

- 8 books for my yearly goal -- (total: 27/75)
- 1 book for my "adult"/contemporary book goal -- (total: 1/5)
- 1 book for my Unwind re-read/finish -- (total: 3/4)
- 1 book for my Harry Potter re-read -- (total: 3/7)
- 3 books for my Raven Cycle re-read/finish -- (total: 4/4 COMPLETE!)

Whew, what a month! Number-wise, it's the best I've done so far this year. I completed my first challenge (re-reading/finishing The Raven Cycle) so I'm happy about that (although I'm sad the series is over)! Plus I'm a few books ahead of schedule on my yearly challenge, so that's also a good feeling. :)

May:

Books read:

1. A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab
2. The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordan
3. UnDivided by Neal Shusterman
4. Risuko: A Kunoichi Tale by David Kudler
5. Wildwood by Colin Meloy
6. Tithe by Holly Black

Challenges progress:

- 6 books for my yearly goal -- (total: 33/75)
- 1 book for my adult/contemporary goal -- (total: 2/5)
- 1 book for my Unwind re-read/finish -- (total: 4/4 COMPLETE!)
- 1 book for my hidden gems goal -- (total: 4/11)

Not quite as good as the last couple months––it was a busy month, and I didn't finish anything in the last week because I'm still making my way through two really long books, haha. But I'm still ahead on my yearly goal, plus I completed another series! During June I'm hoping to make more progress on challenges I haven't tackled much yet (i.e. books I own that I haven't read, more adult and non-fiction books, etc.).

June:

Books read:

1. The Secret History by Donna Tartt
2. Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
3. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire by J.K. Rowling (re-read)

Challenges progress:

- 3 books for my yearly goal -- (total: 36/75)
- 1 book for my Harry Potter re-read challenge -- (total: 4/7)

Sooooo yeah, not a great month. In my defense, The Secret History was really long/dense and the fourth HP book is really long as well. But I've also been distracted by dumb things lately so it's partly that I'm just lazy. :P But at least I'm still on track for my yearly goal (although I fell behind for a day––noooo!). And I think I'll get a lot of reading done during July!

@Ashley - I enjoyed The Secret History! It was a really interesting book. It kind of reminded me of The Raven Boys except ... all the characters are just flat-out awful people, lol. There were a couple of things that bothered me about it (mainly the over-sexualization of the only important female character -_-) but otherwise it was good.

@Heidi - Yeah, I always have a few "off" months. :P July is always a good reading month, though. It's actually a really busy month for me but I think I'll manage to get a lot of reading done anyway.

July:

Books read:

1. Slayers by C.J. Hill

Challenges progress:

- 1 book for my yearly goal -- (total: 37/75)
- 1 book for my hidden gems goal -- (total: 5/11)

Ummm yeah I really fell off track this past month. I was working two jobs and was really tired as a result ... and when I got home in the evening I would just have no motivation to read. I only finished one book as you can see ... I started The School for Good and Evil and Hard Times but still haven't finished either of them yet. Also admittedly, I got sucked into some fandom stuff on Tumblr, so .... I've been spending a lot of time doing fan art and whatnot instead of reading, lol.

SOOOO now I'm 7 books behind on my yearly goal and I still have a lot of progress to go with a bunch of my challenges, so I feel a little overwhelmed. But August isn't going to be super busy for me, so I'm determined to catch up (or at least make better progress than in July, hahaaaa). Although it's already more than a week into August and I haven't finished a single book yet. :')

message 50: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie it's always good to take time off from reading and do other things so you don't burn yourself out :) and Slayers counts for two of your challenges! You'll be okay, B.
