Yeah, I was going to do one after we finished Riyria. I'll do my post at some point soon.

Some good books on your list. A few of those will be on mine I'm sure.

Suzanne | 1582 comments Nice list. I can't wait to see others. I feel like I've read a lot of great books this year - it'll be hard to narrow it down.

They grow up so fast!

message 6: by Geoff (new)

Geoff (geoffgreer) Making those lists made me realize that most of the 2015 books that I read were with this group.

Yeah, that's mostly true for me the list free years.

Suzanne | 1582 comments Same. This group picks such good books!

I think I was drunk this morning. That should read last few years. lol.

message 12: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments Well...I COULD do with some list free years - my current years are full of lists :)

message 13: by Geoff (new)

Geoff (geoffgreer) I wondered why you replied so early. Or late, as the case may be.

I'm always up that early.

Then no wonder you were drunk ;)

I don't think I've been drunk since college actually.

message 17: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments Lol I'm sure you know I was just kidding you :) My job keeps me up late lots of nights - but since I'm way more of a night person, I'm glad it is that way instead of like yours.

I will do my top 5 lists as soon as I read Death of Dulgath because I would not be at all surprised for it to make the lists. Although - stiff competition this year.

message 18: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6373 comments Mod
I was a night person once, now I guess I'm a day person. It wasnt a quick change.

And yeah, cracking my top 5 will be tough, but Death of Dulgath has the best shot for those that are left. Ive already given over 5 books 5 stars, and you know how stingy I am with 5 stars.

message 19: by Dara (new)

Dara (cmdrdara) I feel like I barely read anything at all this year...

Favorites of 2015 (no order):

Liveship Traders trilogy (well, the last 2 since I read the first last year)
Tawny Man trilogy
The Fifth Season
Into Thin Air: A Personal Account of the Mount Everest Disaster/Into the Wild
You're Never Weird on the Internet

message 20: by Kaleb (last edited Dec 11, 2015 01:50PM) (new)

Kaleb Although I've read a significant amount this year, I can't say it was difficult choosing some of my favorite reads the year.
Favorites of 2015 (In no particular order)
Sorcerer of The Wildeeps
The Fifth Season
More Happy Than Not
Nimona
Dark Ascension
A Darker Shade of Magic
Archivist Wasp

message 21: by Sumant (new)

Sumant | 522 comments I consciously wanted to read sci-fi this year so majority of my favorites are sci fi this year.

Look to windward.
Pandora's star
Player of games
Titus groan
Soldiers live
Daughter of the empire

message 22: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments These are always fun! Going to go ahead and set up my lists. I reserve the right to change these after I read Death of Dulgath :D

Top 5 2015 NABCC Reads:

Memories of Ice - Steven Erikson
The Autumn Republic - Brian McClellan
An Unwelcome Quest - Scott Meyer
The Rebirths of Tao - Wesley Chu
Armada - Ernest Cline

Top 5 Books Read in 2015 (cheating on this one by including series instead of single books since i've read really good ones):

Malazan (this series has completely rocked my world)
Locke and Key (really wonderful graphic novel from start to finish)
Alex Verus (A refreshing UF series with a great main character, magic, and action)
Vicious - V.E. Schwab (this book surprised me by how much i enjoyed it, really cool. thanks for the rec Justine!)
Long Price Quartet (very original feeling epic fantasy)

Top 5 Books Published in 2015

Veiled - Benedict Jacka
A Darker Shade of Magic - V.E. Schwab
The Autumn Republic - Brian McClellan
An Unwelcome Quest - Scott Meyer
The Rebirths of Tao - Wesley Chu

Pretty kick ass year of reading, I feel like. Read more new releases than I usually do. And it was my year of Malazan, which I'm very glad I read.

I really enjoyed the Gormenghast trilogy. It was really different from anything else I have read. Book 2 was easily my favorite.

message 24: by Bill (new)

Bill | 1596 comments really need to bump A Darker Shade of Magic and The Fifth Season up my tbr.

@Scott - Malazan totally rocked my world too. Think it was the last series I read straight through. I joined GR midway through the series and have been jumping between a ton of series ever since.

message 25: by Scott (new)

Scott (thekeeblertree) | 1049 comments Damn, I can't imagine reading the whole series straight through! That's some baller-ass shit right there. Although I've pretty much done that for the last three. I need to know how it ends!

Cant speak to the former, but 5th season will be on my top 5 too.

I was so addicted. Want to wait until Esslemont finishes his prequel trilogy and then do a reread of both their series.

@Rob - i'll have to check it out after Dulgath.

For me all 3 categories are nearly identical, since the books I enjoyed this year were not only all published this year (which is very unusual), but most were read by this group. Yet another reason why this group is my favorite. :)

Anyways, I'm going to cheat a little and just list my 5 star books (excluding rereads) in rough order, since there aren't a ton of them.

1) Nemesis Games
2) Fool's Quest
3) The Fifth Season
4) The Price of Valor
5) The Aeronaut's Windlass
6) The Rebirths of Tao
7) The Autumn Republic
8) Rat Queens, Vol. 2: The Far Reaching Tentacles of N'rygoth

message 30: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments My top two tooks by far were
1. Nemesis Games by James S.A. Corey
2. Fool's Quest by Robin Hobb

They just both had a big emotional impact on me, for whatever reason.

3. Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty
4. Ancillary Mercy by Ann Leckie
5. The Liar's Key
6. The Autumn Republic
7.. The Price of Spring by Daniel Abraham

You have great taste. :-D

message 32: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments As do you! =) I cannot wait to see the next ones by those two authors this year. They were the only books I read last year that I just couldn't read anything afterwards for awhile.

message 33: by Rob, Mayor of Ghost Town (new)

Rob (robzak) | 6373 comments Mod
I'm extremely nervous about the next Hobb book. I expect the next Expanse book to be fun, but maybe not as enjoyable as this one was. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I'll be curious to see what you think of The Fifth Season. Is that one on your radar at all?

message 34: by Suzanne (new)

Suzanne | 1582 comments Yes it is - I'm planning on reading it at the start of next month - maybe even a tad sooner. I have a feeling I will like it - a lot of people whose tastes are similar have said great things about it.
