Michael | 14 comments I read the hardcover around ten years ago. Can't remember the title. Set in a contempoary midwestern small town or suburb during a snowy winter. Children living on the same street(or going to the same grade school) band together to solve a gruesome murder(or murders)that had happen years before in their neighborhood(I think one there friends is also murdered in the course of their investigation).

Yes, I sort of remember it was on Ohio or Indiana. Mid-west.

Michael, is this book for young adults?

About how old are the children? How many are trying to solve the murder(s)? Boys and girls?

Michael | 14 comments It was an adult novel. I think three to four kids, boys and girls were involved. The adult killer also lived in the nieghborhood.

This book looks too recent, but I'll mention it just in case - The Paperboys Club (2010) by Thomas Fincham? The kids have special paranormal abilities.

How old is the murder the kids are trying to solve?
What do you remember about the victim and the circumstances?

Who else is trying to solve the murder (e.g., sheriff, police detective)?

message 7: by Michael (new)

Michael | 14 comments That is not it. It is really just the kids looking into it, until there investigation gets to close to the killer and then the police may have become involved. The book was most likely published between 1997 and 2004. What I really remember about was the winter setting. That played a big part in the story. A skating pond, etc...

Is it more of a police procedural, cozy mystery, horror, something else?

message 9: by Michael (new)

Michael | 14 comments No, it just a murder mystery dealing with a neighborhood black and of a killer of children living amongst them and the kids(12 year olds I think) who expose him.

To clarify, I think you mean "neighborhood block" rather than black?

message 11: by Michael (new)

Michael | 14 comments block.

Who was murdered years ago? How long ago did it happen?

What prompts the kids to try to solve this murder?

Giving this a bump since Michael posted recently.

Some child disappeared in the neighborhood years before. I don't remember what prompted them to investigate. Frustrating as it was a good novel.
