With winter (in the northern hemisphere) and the holiday season quickly approaching how many books on a winter or holiday theme do you plan on reading in December?

List and suggestions here! Challenge on the group home page

Leslie | 15985 comments I will read a few Christmas mysteries and perhaps a reread of Dickens A Christmas Carol.

I have already finished my first, The Santa Klaus Murder!

(added later)
Finished a novella, A Highland Christmas, on audiobook. Nice blend of holiday feeling & village policing :)

I'm planning on reading 3 books for the winter challenge

1. Hogfather
2. Round the Christmas Fire: Festive Stories

and one other. I would love to read a snow themed book but not The Snow Child or A Christmas Carol as I read those last year.

Any ideas?

Gill | 5720 comments Have you read Rock Crystal, Heather? It has plenty of snow.

How was The Santa Klaus murder?

Diane S ☔ Reading Letters From Father Christmas, now. Wish I would have had this idea when my kids were little.

Janessa | 638 comments I finished The Winter Horses today

It was amazing! I'm a sucker for a story with horses in it. I did cry at the end of it though, when you combine animals and WWII, I always cry.

~☆~Autumn♥♥☔ I used to always read ALL books about horses but not anymore. You might like Mary Stewart's book about the Lippenzer's which I cannot spell. I hope they did not kill all that breed of horses? That would be too sad. Mary Stewart

Gill | 5720 comments I've just started reading The Castle, not an obvious choice for this theme, but there does seem to be an awful lot of snow!

Snowy counts definitely! I have downloaded Hercule Poirot's Christmas as my extra choice. I've not read Agatha Christie before but I am assuming they are standalone and not meant to be read in order?

Yes, they are definitely stand-alone. I'm not sure how good that one is but I like almost all of her books so chances are in your favor!

I read your review before ordering, Leslie. It was favourable. 4* for a re-read!

Chouaib | 17 comments I'm planning on reading two books on December:

The Power of Your Subconscious Mind

and

Drop the Pink Elephant: 15 Ways to Say What You Mean - And Mean What You Say

I have the idea to change the genre in January.

message 18: by Leslie (new)

Leslie | 15985 comments I downloaded a couple of holiday books from Project Gutenberg today -- one doesn't appear to have an entry here, "A Christmas Wreath" by Max Beerbohm (the author of Zuleika Dobson) and A Little Book of Christmas by John Kendrick Bangs.

message 19: by Janessa (new)

Janessa | 638 comments I just finished reading Murder on the Orient Express.
The train is stopped by a snow storm.

~☆~Autumn♥♥☔ The Santa Klaus Murder
I am struggling with this one but finished a Charlaine Harris in 3 days which is typical for me.

I just started Winter Solstice and so far want to savor it.

Just finished it. Nice read, but wasn't it a bit... Obvious? I knew how it ended as soon as all charecters were "on stage"!

~☆~Autumn♥♥☔ Hi LauraT, hope I can figure it out as soon as I get into it. That hasn't happened yet. I am bored with it so far.

Leslie | 15985 comments I am about to delete this challenge from the group homepage. Any reason I should wait?

message 26: by [deleted user] (new)

Nope! I was going to so the same!

~☆~Autumn♥♥☔ May we have a 100 books challenge for the year 2016?
