Year published: 1979
Title: Something like "Waterlilies and Lilacs", but I couldn't find a book by that name
I'm inclined to think this was a very small print run by a very small press.
Illustrations: watercolor, on every page
Audience: children about 5-10

This is about a little Afro-American girl and her friendship with the new girl next door, who has just immigrated from Egypt and speaks no English. They communicate via their shared interest in nature, flower gardens, ladybugs and so on. The black girl tries to find flowers that look like the water lilies the Egyptian girl loves. When they go to school they do a number of art projects on these subjects.

The author apparently did a number of books with these sorts of themes.
