Well, I mean fulfill at least one of the tasks of every site. I don't think that's too difficult; I seem to find at least one book for each site pretty easily, but sometimes the second and most often the third book require more effort, like buying a book or reading a book that I wouldn't otherwise read. So far I've found 13 full sites. the only continent where I don't have full site yet is South America, finding that a bit difficult, need more gophering.

message 11: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 19596 comments I am finding the same thing, Camilla. I have many that I can find that one book, but some I don't care to read for at all.

I'm in a slump right now. I am listening to a book, but can't seem to settle down and read. Burn out, I guess. Watching Netflix the last week is all I want to do when I get home from work.

I hope your reading burnout passes soon, Cherie!

Camilla | 1951 comments I'm currently reading Old Whaling Days for the whaling task. I have to say I'm bored to tears by it! The guy just chronologically lists all his whaling trips without making it in any way interesting. It's just wind, ice, killing of whales and more killing of whales. I'm not even having the feeling that I'm learning anything new by reading it. If you're planning to do that task, I plead you to choose something else, unless you want to end up in a semi-catatonic state. If it wasn't for the task - and the fact that I even went and bought the kindle edition of it - I would have abandoned it around page 10.

Janice (jamasc) | 47241 comments Kudos to you for even attempting to finish it.

Camilla | 1951 comments I realised I've learnt a new word from it: flensing. In case everybody is not familiar with the word, it means "To strip the blubber or skin from, as from a whale, seal, etc." (definition from Wikipedia). The men in the whaling boats seem to do a lot of flensing...

Cherie (crobins0) | 19596 comments Stupid app. My book is doing a lot of the same. Name dropping and dates everywhere, and I cannot even begin to pronounce the Latin names of all of the fossils. I have learned some other data that I never knew before, so it is not as bad as yours. What we get ourselves into to earn a pretty badge, huh?

Camilla | 1951 comments I just realised I've read 36 books for this challenge, and I haven't completed even one site... I need to plan my travels better.

Cherie (crobins0) | 19596 comments Too funny! I have read 36 books too, but I have finished ONE site. I am 1/2 a book away from finishing a 2nd site and have a couple of others that have had two books completed but need a third. I need to stop reading 500+ page books.

We have plenty of time. I finally decided to stop stressing over getting it done sooner and enjoy the reading - I am trying. ;)

I am still finding books to add. I have some tasks that have multiple books.

message 20: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1951 comments I currently have six sites that are lacking only one book. They are not all from different continents though. And for some tasks I'm still searching for a book.

message 21: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1951 comments Aaargh! I've read 53 books for this challenge, and still not a single site completed! If I continue like this, I will have visited every site at least once before completing any of them.

message 22: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 47241 comments Just remember that you need to read all tasks in 4 sites to get a badge. Then, you may qualify for another if you do visit every site.

I know, I know! I'm just sort of wailing/laughing at my own wanderings, not being able to concentrate on one site at a time.

Janice (jamasc) | 47241 comments Ah! you'll get there. We're only at the half way mark.

Cherie (crobins0) | 19596 comments I found myself doing the same thing, Camilla. I finally had to decide to finish some sites that I already had two books finished for. I am still working on two sites for the last two continents and then I can settle down to read one book from the rest of the sites. The problem I am having now, is that I want to read books for sites that I do not need to read for any longer. I just know that they are books I want to read and I have some of them available vs. the ones I need to get from the library or purchase.

Yes, I can see myself wanting to complete all the sites even after the end of the year (the same way I'm now tracking all completed series from last year's series challenge...).

Cherie (crobins0) | 19596 comments I think we are going to need a couple of years to recover from the yearly challenges.

message 28: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1951 comments And I just put a hold on six Geo Challenge books, none of which work for completing a site...

message 29: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 19596 comments I think with this one, it will not be so much wanting to finish all of the tasks for all of the sites, but wanting to read all of the great titles we found for them. At least that is my case. I just checked a title that Roz posted. I have it on my Kenya site, but I have already finished one book for it and do not need to read the others listed. It is just a one book site, vs needing to finish the other tasks for a completed site.

You still have plenty of time to complete your four sites/6 continents. :)

message 30: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1951 comments I think for me it's the opposite, i.e. more about wanting to finish all the tasks than being interested in the books per se. I wouldn't have touched 90% of the books I have read or will be reading for the challenge if they weren't needed to complete sites.

message 31: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 19596 comments If I could read fast enough, it would be fun to try to finish them all, but I can't. I tried to use books I already owned or were already on my TBR list, but there are still titles I added, just to have a place holder. It had to be a title, I at least wanted to really read. I will probably dump some after the challenge is over, but maybe not too many. What has surprised me are the titles I randomly pick to read or listen to that actually fit a task. If I use it, I have to decide to swap out the "planned" title and then I have to decide if I want to keep it on my TBR list.

The great thing about this group is that we all do things differently but we can all have fun still, however we get it done.

message 32: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1951 comments Yay! Finally, after reading 60 books for this challenge, I've managed to complete the first two sites (Cuba and Senegal)!

message 33: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 19596 comments And that is two continents done too! Yay.

message 34: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 47241 comments Yeah! Things should start to pull together quickly.

message 35: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1951 comments Only one book left, then I've completed the all sites sweep. Yay!

message 36: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 47241 comments That's awesome! You'll do it with time to spare.

message 37: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 19596 comments Awesome! I am three books away.

message 38: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 19596 comments I see you have read about Joe and Vicki in Spain. Are you going to read the follow on books? I think that Peggy did.

message 39: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 19596 comments So many left over titles. You read several that I did not get to. I just got a book about Borneo from the library, but I am not going to fit it in to finish up, but it may be my last read for the year. I really want to read it.

message 40: by Camilla (new)

Camilla | 1951 comments Cherie wrote: "So many left over titles."

It's not a problem, as I'm continuing with reading books for the tasks. I want to finish all sites.

I think I would like to continue eventually, but no great hurry.
