SOLVED. YA Book About a Dog in NYC Named Fritz [s]

I am looking for a book I read in middle school in the 1980's. I am very fuzzy on the details but it was about a dog, I believe his name was Fritz, who lived in the city...I am almost positive it was NYC and even more specifically, Central Park. I think the name Fritz and Central Park may be in the title. I think at one point in the story the dog lives with a couple in a Manhattan apartment building but somehow winds up homeless in the park. It's driving me crazy trying to find it!

Although it says it was published in the 90s on GR, I'm seeing that it was published in the early 80s under a different name Chasing After Annie

GR doesn't always have the correct original publication dates for books. Especially if they were originally published under a different title.

Well, I had the name wrong. It wasn't Fritz, but Fitzgo. The title of the book is Fitzgo, The Wild Dog of Central Park.
