Poppy | 45 comments Last year I set the ambitious goal of reading 75 books, 25 from the Rory Gilmore list, 25 from the BBC list, and 25 from the Read Harder Challenge. Overlaps meant that I had a few slots that I could fill with my own picks.

As I count down to December 31, I feel fairly certain that I will have read 75 books this year. That's the good news. The bad news is that I went off the rails this summer. Briefly, I hated One Hundred Years of Solitude so much that I had to read about 20 cozy British mysteries as a sort of palette cleanser.

I'm therefore going to do the same thing: read the seventy five books, with the same categories, except that I'm leaving in the books from last year that I didn't read.

So far, this is my list:

From the Rory list:

Daughter of Fortune
Eleanor Roosevelt, Vol 1, 1884-1933
Galápagos
A Heartbreaking Work of Staggering Genius
I'm with the Band: Confessions of a Groupie
The Naked and the Dead
The Peace of Nicias and the Sicilian Expedition
Quattrocento
Sacred Time
Tender Is the Night
The Unabridged Journals of Sylvia Plath
The Vanishing Newspaper: Saving Journalism in the Information Age
War and Peace
The Yearling

BBC list:

The Lord of the Rings
Birdsong
The Time Traveler's Wife
The Grapes of Wrath
The Kite Runner
Captain Corelli's Mandolin
Memoirs of a Geisha
The Da Vinci Code
The Handmaid's Tale
Atonement
Life of Pi
A Suitable Boy
The Shadow of the Wind
Love in the Time of Cholera
The Secret History
The Lovely Bones

The Read Harder Challenge:

Flappers and Philosophers
SwitchFlipped
A Guest Of Honour
Half-Breed
The Fault in Our Stars
The Princess Bride
Macbeth
Lays of Ancient Rome
Imperial Spain, 1469-1716
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: The Watcher
Go Ask Malice: A Slayer's Diary
I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence

and 33 other titles to be determined
