Ryan | 5330 comments You have until the 5th of December to post a poem, and December 6-7, we’ll vote for which one we thought was best.

Please post directly into the topic and not a link. Please don’t use a poem previously used in this group.

Your poem can be any length.

This week’s topic is: Fireworks

The rules are pretty loose. You could write a poem about anything that has to do with the subject but it must relate to the topic somehow.

Have fun!

Thanks to Anne for suggesting the topic!

Angel Blown

I’ve blown your fuse
Become your muse
Made you want more
But, here’s the lesson
This is the score
I can’t be your whore
I won’t take on that chore anymore
This is torture to the ninth degree
I fed you my lines
And you drank them down like fine wine
But, I’m not being paid in kind
I’m just being doused and slaughtered
I’m so tired of being cannon fodder
This totally blows
Blown me all to bits and pieces
Am I on loan, on lease with an option to buy?
Oh, God why do I even try
This is lecherous
Treacherous territory
Thanks for the lift
I’ll pass
The gift I gave you I take it all back
It’s my fault for getting off track
But, I’ve come back full circle
I’m sick and tired of gurgling on my own blood, until I turn bright purple
This is the last syllable I will let roll off my tongue
Sadly but, surely I’ve banged the gong on this one.

Edward Davies | 1727 comments Title : Why Do You Have To Set Them Off At Such A Stupid Time?
Poet : Edward Davies

You try to sleep right through the night
But something wakes you with a fright
The sound of thunder overhead
Convinces you to stay in bed
Explosions booming through the air
From folk who simply do not care
They set off rockets for a lark
Despite it being far from dark
It’s summer time for goodness sake
There must be some sort of mistake
I don’t live in the U.S.A
Or further East in old Bombay
So fireworks are for New Year
Or Guy Fawkes Night; they’re nowhere near
Yet detonations persevere
At any time of any year
There’s meant to be a strict control
On selling sparklers on the whole
With caps on what time of the year
They can be bought or swapped for beer
But now it seems this limitation’s
Suffering from fluctuations
And no matter what the date
Those fireworks make me irate!

So much passion in this! The rap style (did I get that right?) works well for the message. Well done.

I can so totally relate to this! Thanks for putting it into words and giving me a smile today. Good job.

Meenakshi Raina | 32 comments FIREWORKS

Different shapes and forms in the sky,
Made by the dazzling fireworks,
Makes me forget my worries and pain.
When rockets shoot up so high,
I feel more close to moon and stars,
Some return earth like burning cigars.

I too become naughty like a child,
For once I am not afraid of darkness,
The night looks bright and gleaming.
Families and friends are seen together,
Power of fireworks is more than fun,
It brings happiness to everyone.

Julie Grenness | 137 comments FROM JULIE (FEEDBACK WELCOME).
FIREWORKS....
In the darkness, extravaganza,
Flaming blazing dramas,
Sky rockets and sparklers,
So spectacular,
Fireworks in my brain,
Flaming illumination,
Catherine wheels,
Are you for real?
The pyrotechnics,
Was it all a squib?
Crescendo
To diminuendo....

I float down from clouds above,
Another little death of love....

Ryan | 5330 comments The Darkest Night

The mind has many defences, she wrote
in her award-winning essay. Glowing,
she stood in front of her school;
cinema tickets her prize.

Painted in shades between girl and woman
she kissed me goodbye with bright red lips
and joined her friends in line.

The mind has many defences, she wrote.
Maybe that's why, in police reports,
many claimed they'd heard fireworks.
Odd in a theatre; the alternative
too grim to believe.

any feedback welcome

Edward, I DO live in the USA and own a cottage on a lake, the purchase of which was prior to the legalization of fireworks in Michigan. I could have wrote this poem........only not half so charmingly as you!

Julie, I love your last stanza. So elegantly phrased.

Connie D. | 656 comments Ryan,

I literally felt my stomach sink when I read this. So well crafted, lead me to a happy vision in my head and then......sadly, my mind has few "defences". I think you should submit this one somewhere. It's so....timely.

Gretchen Guerrettaz (gretchiepoo24) | 44 comments Fallen Angels
By: Gretchen Guerrettaz

Need help to improve my writing, feedback is always welcome!

I once thought
Fireworks were a way
for fallen angels
To reach heaven

I once thought
The reason fireworks looked like smoking diamonds
even if it lasted for only mere seconds
Was a way for them to prove the redemption
they so heartily desired

The clap of thunder they expelled
Was their anger and swearing intended for God
And their cries, oh their cries!
Such sorrow, such despair.

I never liked to gaze at the smoke
For what I saw
Was them falling
Limp from the sky

And so I thought these thoughts
Not realizing
it was a reality

Who lit that firework?

A single firework burst in the beginning,
Through and around us its showers shine,
From ages ago, until the end of time.

Who lit that firework, nobody knows.
Shocked He must be, just as anyone would,
If the sparks of our fireworks could speak.

Aren't we the happiest, when the black night sky,
Is peppered with sparks that shine ever so brilliantly?
What must be the purpose of our life then?

Dare I say, it must be to shine in the darkest hours,
And just as we are saddened by the fading sparks,
So must be He, at our fleeting existence.

But, however short it may be,
The smiles it brings, the memories created,
Must be etched forever in His mind.

If all we need to do is shine brilliantly,
If all we need to do is shine beautifully,
Then, does it matter who lit that firework?

C.P. Cabaniss (cpcabaniss) | 655 comments Stars

Stars lit up the night
Created a glow in your eyes
Like fireworks on the fourth of July
A meteor shower through the sky

In your arms, time slowed down
When all around us it barreled on
Oblivious to the numbered beats of my heart
