I have been getting really interested in good editions of Austen. I am really into annotated editions. I glanced at an annotated Pride and Prejudice that looked pretty thorough. Does anyone know if there are annotated editions of all her works? Oh, some of them are published by Modern Library, but has anyone checked them out?

I just acquired a book called A Guide to Jane Austen by Michael Hardwick. It is a good basic guide, nothing too heavy. Hardwick does pose a few interesting thoughts, but mainly this is a guide to characters and summaries of the books. It is worth looking at and having as a reference. Goodreads....

Has anyone read Becoming Jane Austen by Spence? Any recommendations?

anilia | 3 comments I have read almost all of her books in the last month or so in all different versions. I like the Penguin Classics the best. The notes were not extensive but were thorough and there weren't so many notes that you were flipping to the back every other page. They use the text from the earliest editions of printing. Also the intro was not stodgy and verbose like some of the other editions.

They have some new editions of those Penguins coming out in 2008. You can look at them for comparison if you are interested. There are also some new editions just out by Random House Vintage Classics that I am interested in seeing. Thanks for recommending the Penguins.
