Post your own list here. Feel free to include any rules you may have set for yourself (i.e. no rereads, no books under 200 pages, one book per month etc)

I'm planning on doing 20 prompts and a goal of 24 books (2 per month) I will likely read more but want to do a less daunting challenge in terms of numbers. I've chosen a mix of open ended prompts, specific ones and a few that tbr books will fit easily. I also have an over 200pgs (unless it's a book club pick) and no rereads for prompts (except number 2)

Edit: I finally updated and I switched a few of my prompts to ones I actually read or will read! Goal hasn't changed though; 20 prompts 30 books total

✅1) a book based on a fairy tale- Cinder by Marissa Meyer
✅2) a book you haven't read since high school- the Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood
✅3) a book that's becoming a movie this year- Me Before You by Jojo Moyes
✅4) a book written by a celebrity- Troublemaker by Leah Remini
✅5) a book written by a comedian- Food: a Love Story by Jim Gaffigan
✅6) a book with a blue cover- The Death Cure by James Dashner
✅7) a book about a road trip- The Martian by Andy Weir
✅8) a book about a culture you're unfamiliar with- Ship of Brides by Jojo Moyes
✅9) the 16th book on your tbr list- House Rules by Jodi Picoult
✅10) A book set in your home province- Barometer Rising by Hugh McLennon
✅11) a book with a type of food/drink in the title- Beer's Folded and the Laundry's Cold
✅12) a dystopia- Maze Runner by James Dashner
✅13) a protagonist with your occupation (sahm)- Flight Bahaviour by Barbara Kingsolver
✅ 14) a book you meant to read in 2015 but didn't- Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee
✅15) a goodreads choice awards winner or nominee- So You've Been Publicly Shamed by Ron Jonson
✅16) A graphic novel- Dayblack by Keef Cross
✅17) a book with one of the 5 w's- The Nazi Officer's Wife: How One Jewish Woman Survived the Holocaust
18) a book everyone is talking about- The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins
✅19) A book about mental health- The Pocket Wife by Susan H Crawford
✅20) a book of poetry- Rotten Perfect Mouth by Eva H.D.

✅21) The Magicians by Mel Grossman
✅22) The Scorch Trials by James Dashner
✅23) The Magician King by Mel Grossman
✅24) The Kill Order by James Dashner
✅25) Secret Sister by Helen Edwards and Jenny Lee Smith
✅26) Scarlet by Marissa Meyer

message 5: by Nailil (last edited Feb 08, 2016 02:56AM) (new)

Nailil (nellah) I used to read 100 books a year. Now life doesn't let me get away with that anymore. So for 2016 I'll just be reasonable and set my goal to 25. I'll only do 10 prompts but my rule is one book one prompt. No overlap.

- a book from a genre you never/rarely read
- a book published on the year you were born
- an award-winning book
- a self-published book
- a book published this year City of Blades (The Divine Cities, #2) by Robert Jackson Bennett
- a book everyone is talking about
- a book from your goodreads recommendations
- a book with a blue cover : Slightly Dangerous (Bedwyn Saga, #6) by Mary Balogh 10/01/16
- a book based on a fairy tale
- a childhood classic

That's it :)

Emily Wrayburn (emilywrayburn) I'm going with 20 prompts for now, though if I read as much next year as I have this year, I'd probably be able to up it a bit. We'll see!

I'm also doing the Australian Women Writers Challenge, but I'm not trying to keep the two challenges separate, so if a book by an Australian woman writer also works for a prompt here, I'm using it!

Prompts:

1. a book based on a fairy tale - Doctor Who: Time Lord Fairy Tales (technically lots of short stories based on various fairy tales, but I'm still counting it) (read January 2016)
2. a YA bestseller
3. a dystopian novel
4. a book that's becoming a movie this year
5. a book you intended to read in 2015 but didn't
6. a book published this year
7. a book with a protagonist who has your occupation
8. a book about a culture you're unfamiliar with
9. a book by an author you feel you should have read by now but haven't
10. the first book in a new to you series - The Book of Shade by K. C> Finn (read January 2016)
11. a book everyone is talking about
12. an historical fiction book - The Lieutenant by Kate Grenville (read January 2016)
13. the 16th book on your tbr list
14. a book about mental illness
15. a book that you've seen the movie but haven't read
16. a book published on the year you were born
17. an award-winning book
18. a self-published book
19. epistolary fiction
20. a book from the Rory Gilmore Challenge

I'll come back and edit once I've had a look at my TBR to see what I can fit where.
