This thread is to discuss chapters 10-19 of Star Wars: Aftermath. Please do not post spoilers from beyond chapter 19

Mike Tennill | 47 comments feel like this chapter reads more like a star trek book than a star wars book. ackbar feels really out of charactee

Jared Mayes | 16 comments I'll agree that Ackbar felt off in this book. But I really liked how he wrote Mon Mothma.

Marc-Antoine I enjoyed the interlude before chapter 10... How easy it would be to continue ruling by power in thinking it would be for the grater good.

message 5: by Marc-Antoine (new)

Marc-Antoine I'm about to start chapter 15 and am surprised by all the negative comments so far, I'm quite enjoying this one.

Scott Mobley | 36 comments Marc-Antoine it was around the same Interlude & chapter 10 that I finally began to connect with the characters & story. I am enjoying this novel, but I think it may end up being like Tarkin... I love the information. I just haven't truly enjoyed how we got it. Whomever said that these characters' story just doesn't feel essential may have hit the nail on the head. I also read somewhere that someone heard an interview with the author & he (the author) explained that the Interludes were "required" info to be included in the novel, but he wanted to tell a more personal story. I plan to go back & reread all the Interludes. Admittedly, I have enjoyed those the most. I wonder if he chose poorly, and should have weaved the Interludes into a novel instead.

In chapter 10 I love the sly reference to the inconsistency of Darth Maul's species..

“A woman. Zabrak—or is it Dathomirian? Or Iridonian? He’s not sure of the distinction or if one even exists.”

J (qwartx) The book is ok so far. I'm enjoying the idea of trying to repair a fracturing empire, I always felt the old cannon was kind of missing this. The interludes are nice but I feel like they're a cop out to an otherwise weak central story. I keep comparing this to heir to the empire and it doesn't hold a candle.

Shane | 18 comments Well just finished ch 19 and I must say I am enjoying the imperials and their plan to fall back. Also, Tashu is interesting about looking for sith relics on the outer rim. In definitely thinking this is a force awakens reference. I'm glad the main characters are finally all together. It took awhile to get there but they are now and I feel like the story will smooth out.

Darren | 24 comments Yes I agree. The character set up takes a while but I guess if we'll be following them through a trilogy of novels that is to be expected. The thing that got me was that all the characters appear comfortable operating alone, it will be interesting to see how they work as a group.

Ahdom (jedi_indyjones) | 2 comments I can concur that the book is picking up and the characters/story seems more interesting the more I read it. I have only read NEW DAWN and currently this one in terms of the new canon and so far none have rivaled some of the EU classics I have enjoyed. I hope that TARKIN, BATTLEFRONT, and HEIR TO THE JEDI (as well as some of the other Journey to YA books and graphic novels) get as good as the EU was. It's more important now because it's canon! I love the interludes the best so far. It really illustrates what the state of things are in the galaxy.

message 13: by Pikmin (new)

Pikmin | 14 comments I picked this up recently to read. I've had it since release and had never been inspires to start it. There was always something else near the top of the to read pile.

I just finished chapter 10 and am just over a quarter of the way through. I am loving it. The characters and plot threads all have me hooked, I can't wait to get passed a chapter to find out what happens to the non featured character each time. The last book that had me doing that was Game of Thrones.

The interludes nicely break the pace up and give a nice insight into the state of the universe. The most recent one with Mon Mothma sat nicely with the politics in TFA.

If the book continues like this I will be a happy reader!
