How it Qualifies: Popular Fairytale Retelling List - Page 5
Popular Fairytale Retelling
Hmmm.... So far everyone has chosen a book with a dark cover. Interesting seeing as this week's theme is Fairytales that are more traditionally happy. Elaine and Heather - you'll have to save us from being all dark this week :-)Happy Reading Everyone!
Amy, just to let you know, that I probably would like to use pass option next week because I'll be on vacation and I have very limited time to read.
Ooh boy... You're looking for me to save you?! I'm still deciding, as I'm at a craft show this weekend, but I'm leaning toward dark... Lol.:-) Elaine
Week 6 - Selection PostBook:
Letters to Zell by Camille Griep
Pages: 336/GR
How it fits: #224 on list - Mythologies and Retellings of Fairy Tales Classics
Sorry! I had no luck with finding a light cover either. Don't worry, I know I still need to finish last weeks book also but it will be done in a few days. :)

Which would mean the PASS next week is all yours. Enjoy your vacation!

Book: Where I Belong by J. Daniels
Rating: ★★★
Review:
This was a sweet story about childhood enemies that get a second chance. I liked both characters but had trouble at times with Mia's indecision it seems a little at odds with the strong emotions she later confessed to having. This story also have a great supporting cast, with Ben's sister and best friend adding a little tension of their own. I also loved Nolan and how he added depth to both main characters.

I hated Drew through most of the book but I did have a few laughs. I liked when Drew and Kate argued it was too funny. I really don't know if I want to continue with the Series

I really enjoyed this book. It's a modern remake of Beauty and the Beast bringing in some fun paranormal stuff and lots of drama. I've never read this author before but will quickly remedy that! The story does resolve but a second book is due out in the Spring. I will definitely read that!!

Wow. This is what the original story was like, dark, scary, gritty. I've never been a huge fan of peter pan mostly because I did the play 3 times in school and it was insane - but the story itself is great and this one blew open a whole new door.
If you enjoy creepy stories that involve kids and the fear of growing up this story is for you. If you're not into those types of stories I recommend you stay away, as there are some really terrifying pictures created throughout the story. Not bad, but gruesome.
I did not give this story 5 stars because it was long and at time I lost interest but I would say it was incredibly well written, but wordy and beautifully haunting. Highly recommend if this is your thing. Peter is creepy in this story and the story of him as a baby/child is heartbreaking. It's no wonder he became a child thief.

Review: This was such a great little story! This wasn't on my tbr list I just randomly picked it up. Im so happy i did! I love the idea of Rapunzel, Snow White and Cinderella in modern times. This book was fun, exciting and the characters were adorable. For ONCE I wished a book wasn't a standalone because I want more of these characters. I would definitely read more by this author. A MUST read!

Review: Laughed so much at times, my sides hurt. I was worried when I had read what a man-slut Bryson had been. I wasn't sure if I was going to be able to like him. The tally marks almost did him in. However, I've got to admit, he is now one of my favorite book boyfriends. I also really liked Baya. Her brother Cole was determined to not let her grow up, but she stood up to him on a couple of occasions. I liked reading this one so much I skipped a craft night to finish reading it.
Let me know if I have this wrong:Outstanding completed books...

Review
This book was many short stories about various fairytales but in modern times and set around Los Angeles. It read like poetry with a dark edge with stark realities. I'm interested in reading more of Blocks work.

As the first book ended in a major cliffhanger, I was looking forward to read next in series. Things about Lia's past caught up with her and in this book Lucien and Lia are dealing with aftermath of this drama. There are also bits and pieces revealed about Lucien's past that I was really looking forward to read about.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I LOVED this book. I LOVE Carter, Sincerely Me.
I generally don't like romance, in fact I usually find the women in romance novels to be annoying and needy - but Carter and Ari's relationship was wonderful and fun to read. I understood their dynamic and also knew they loved each other from the start, but sometimes it takes longer to figure that out. I loved them together, although they both were pretty stupid to get there.
All that said, there were a few things that annoyed me, but not enough to take stars away - "rough dirty sex" did not take place 1 in this story, despite Ari and Carter talking about it/watching it and I guess having it. I would consider their sex slightly naughty but dirty or rough, not a bit. I also wasn't a fan of Josh, I didn't understand why Carter was friends with him. Nicole was a terrible friend but became "useful" in the end.
The book is not perfect but I loved it

Week # 6
Book: Red by Kate SeRine
Rating: ★★★★★
Review:
This book had a little of everything; mystery, fantasy, and romance. I kept thinking that rather than being a retelling of a fairytale that it was using a blend of all of them. But slowly, in a very subtle way the author wove the story around Little Red Riding Hood. Looking back on the book now - it's just plain obvious but it kind of snuck up on me. As usual, I had no idea "Who Done It" but then I'm usually clueless which makes the big reveal more enjoyable for me.
I've already put book 2 - Grimm Consequences on my TBR list.

This story focuses on Raylin and Storm. Raylin is running away from dangerous thugs and Storm is running from something no one else in his life believes. The story was okay. My main concern was the insta-love to the extreme of the characters. I didn't buy it.
