Zara I think you confuse The House of the Spirits and Bleak House in the introduction to the book....

Sorry Caro. Thanks for this. My secret of how I get all these up so quickly is out. LOL.
So far for me is clear magic realism. It seems more magical than the other book I read from her El cuaderno de Maya. This is her first novel and I just start but I can see already that she is using several techniques that are found in almost all the stories of magic realism. This stories that cross boundaries between reality and fiction that you are not sure if it happens... But since I am from Latin America I know that it may happen... Like the story of Gabriel Garcia Marquez that tell the story of a General that made a great funeral to his leg... sounds crazy and unrealistic.... But is reality...
Winter wrote: "I love the way she weaves history seemlessly into the story!"Yes Isabel Allendeloves to do that she always tells the stories of her characters and the impact of history in their lives. It makes them more real. Reading books that mix the characters in the real history makes me think that maybe there is more true in these stories than what we see (and in several cases it is) but I guess that is what makes the magic realism so special....
I really like it too! I have other reads as well so it takes a bit of time though. It's my breakfast read :-D Yes that's great! It's so detailed and you get a feel for the place.
