Nina (nallmend) | 4 comments I know the cover had a street sign in space and the protagonists were all on a space ship.

There's a booth on the ship where you can "save" time for yourself (i.e. get in and exit two hours later, having aged and experienced no time in between). One of the characters uses it daily so that when he is chronologically 41 he will be biologically only 40, etc.

There's also a virtual reality (there's a 3-letter abbreviation for it) that people plug into via ports on their heads. It's possible to get trapped in the virtual reality without knowing you are there, except that life is suddenly awesome.

Any ideas? This has been bugging me for at least a decade.

Lou Rocama | 432 comments Sounds like something Stanisław Lem might write. I'll have a look when next I'm near my book piles.

Nina (nallmend) | 4 comments YES. It's Red Dwarf. Thank you so much Andy, I'll be re-reading this one immediately.

Given how quickly this was answered I wish I could post all my life's questions to Goodreads. Can I handle another dog? Yes, bam, off to the shelter.
