Thanks Bill for the suggestion, Sour Candy looks like an interesting read. I will read the book as soon as possible.

Hello!I'm Tyler Faison and I'm from all over the U.S. (Seriously deep south, New York, New Jersey, Chicago, Michigan, and now California. WOO!) I'm an author of all sorts of fiction (including horror, I like my scary stories) and I've personally been looking for more books like the Hannibal Lector series (I like some elegance with my monsters). However, I don't try to limit myself too much, and I've currently been reading through the works of Lovecraft. You may notice I don't have many book reviews up, and that's because I've joined fairly recently.
All that said, please send any book suggestions if you have them!
Lena wrote: "Welcome to the pit of humorous darkness T!"Thanks! Humor and darkness are both things I could always use more of.
Welcome to HA, T! I'm a huge fan of Lovecraft, myself. You should find no shortage of suggestions, here!
Kimberly wrote: "Welcome to HA, T! I'm a huge fan of Lovecraft, myself. You should find no shortage of suggestions, here!"Awesome, yeah, I'm currently reading through 'The Complete Cthulu Mythos Tales' right now. I really suggest it, it's a lot of horror for your buck.
Hi! I just joined. My name's Traci and I'm from Missouri. I've loved horror books and horror movies/TV shows since I was a kid and haven't really ever been able to get enough. Vampires and haunted houses are favorites, but I also really like it when authors write about phenomena or creatures that don't often get a lot of attention by horror writers. I like things heavy on plot and character development the best, or which put a new and interesting spin on something we're used to, like what The Strain did with vampires and combining horror and sci-fi so perfectly. Anything that sends a chill down my spine, gets me thinking, or both! Wow, this is so long I should really shut up now. Sorry! :p

Vampires and haunted ..."Don't apologize, you seem awesome! Plus getting to know your taste of preferred horror gives people stuff to talk with you about. (I say having joined the group hours before you did) What do you mean by creatures that don't get a lot of attention? (This also interests me as a writer, and I'd love to hear what people are looking for)
T. wrote: "Traci wrote: "Hi! I just joined. My name's Traci and I'm from Missouri. I've loved horror books and horror movies/TV shows since I was a kid and haven't really ever been able to get enough. Vampire..."Oh, thank you! :)
Examples of creatures I mean might be, say, goblins, the Chupacabra, creatures from other cultures (the Philippines have some really interesting creatures), the Russia's Domovoi.
Spring Heeled Jack, even, some of the myths about him/them were pretty out there and could probably be expanded upon in interesting ways.
There are also some interesting creature myths in Louisiana, especially centered around the bayou areas, that are quite interesting that could probably be tapped for interesting and spooky stories.
Famous characters like Baba Yaga don't get much play except in children's books anymore, but the scarier myths about her could definite be tapped for some pretty darn sinister stuff that could easily be suitable for grown-up readers.
There are so many myths and legends in the US and around the world that could be tapped that often get ignored but would probably be super interesting. Often, even the things that have reputations for being "good" creatures or characters will have alternative myths about them that are far more sinister and scary, too. There's really no end to the opportunities.
The Strain did a good job bringing vampires into the 21st century, and Stephen King had an interesting concept with what basically amounted to energy/life-force vampires (as well as shapeshifters, although it's the energy vampire aspect that I was most interested in) in Sleepwalkers, so new spins on creatures we're already used to can be just as intriguing and creepy, too.
(edited so that it's not just a huge wall of text, sorry about that)

Welcome T. and Traci. One of the greatest aspects of horror is that there are so many subgenres, and off-shoots. Even peoples opinion of what constitutes horror is up for debate. It's always great to hear more opinions and comments.

Hello everyone!
This is my first book club and am excited to get into amazing books! I love the horror genre and enjoy getting creeped out, provided the husband and cats are nearby.

Hey everyone my name is Darrion! Both me and my girlfriend love horror!!!! I'm more of a fictional horror like zombies and ghosts and other things supernatural!! She loves non fiction horror like reading about serial killers! I hope you guys can give me good suggestions on both! This year has just started and I've already read 3 books!! My 4 month old daughter loves when I read to her!
Not sure if I've done this - Hi, Adrian here (new author - quiz and trivia).Very pleased to be part of the community - say hello etc and don't be a stranger!
Lovecraft is actually the author of a lot of supernatural horror, he has a very interesting writing style (Or had, he's dead now) I suggest you check him out. Also hello Adrian!
Welcome Bree, Adrian & Darrion. Darrion, here's one for your gf but don't blame me if she never sleeps again!

Thank you.
I'm an indie writer-filmmaker known, if at all, for the Nightscape series of supernatural thrillers. To date, I've released a feature film, three books, a comic book and a concept album. The latter features a Grammy-nominated guitarist and musical contributions from members of Black Sabbath/Dio, Guided by Voices and Marillion. It's available for preview in its entirety on Bandcamp: https://projectnightscape.bandcamp.co....I'm particularly interested in horror in the weird fiction vein, more literary and atmospheric than graphically violent (though there's plenty of that in my own work). My favorite genre authors include Thomas Ligotti, Ramsey Campbell, Laird Barron and Brian Evenson and I'm always interested in recommendations along those lines.
Hello David, and welcome to HA! In the future, please limit promotional posts to the promotional areas. Good luck to you, (I'm a big Sabbath and Dio fan myself. Did you know that Dio's son writes horror? Dan Padavona.)

I bought it for Kindle on Amazon and am halfway through it already and I'm thoroughly hooked. If this book is an indication of his writing skill, then I'd definitely say it's worth a look!
