Horror Aficionados discussion
Introduce Yourself!
Well hello there, my name's Layla. I do.like a good juicy bit of horror, albeit film, book or anything in between. I look forward to getting stuck in =)
Hi. I've been reading horror stories since I-don't-know-when and 'adult' horror fiction since I was 11 (Salem's Lot).I also write. I've published a few short stories and have recently self-published my debut novel, Hyenas.
Novel and short story recommendations welcome.
Also, if someone could help me avoid the dross and point me in the direction of some genuinely great horror movies on Netflix (UK), I'd be absolutely delighted.
Welcome to HA, Michael! I don't know if podcasts are your thing but the NoSleep podcast puts out some quality short fiction. I just finished up Borrasca and am still trying hard not to think about that ending.
As for Netflix, I haven't had much luck lately but I did enjoy Creep for it's all out weirdness and The Returned (french version, season one) is very creepy. Season two is losing me a bit though.

Thank you. I've already received some great recommendations. I've always thought of myself as a big horror fiction fan. I'm beginning to realise just how little I've read!

And aside from all the wonderful "new" authors out there, through this group I've discovered books from earlier that I never knew about from authors like Michael McDowell (EVERYTHING recommended, but most especially THE ELEMENTALS), and Stephen Gregory.

The Elementals is on my 'Want to Read' list. I've not heard of Stephen Gregory but I'll be sure to check him out. Thanks.

What's up, HA? I've been urged by my readers to get involved more at Goodreads, so I'm back. First group joined, as there are many people in this group that have supported DarkFuse and myself over the years and I appreciate every one of you. So…I'm founder and editor-in-chief at DarkFuse, for those of you who aren't aware. Previously I ran Delirium Books from 1999-2012. Looking forward to stopping by and thanks for supporting DarkFuse and its authors!!!

Thanks everyone, much appreciated! I seldom get time to enjoy the fun stuff...being around readers and fans, as I'm always in the business side of things, but you have a great group here. Happy to see it growing!
Hey Everyone,I'm so stoked about joining HA. I love anything with a good scare and edge-of-the-seat type feel. This will def challenge me to read more and keep my book stacks growing. On a mission to have my own mini library. Already 500 books in. And just surround myself with fellow book lovers.

Hi Michael, Shane & Brooke,Welcome to HA, it's a great group and I look forward to seeing on the threads.
Hey I'm Kavya, call me Kavy, and I love Horror stuff, but I get scared really easily, and I love Horror anime, and I used to read Horror short stories on wattpad, but then I stopped because I was like getting really scared and terrified, because some of the stories were based on true experiences, and those scare me way more than the stories that aren't based on true experiences. And the memories kept haunting my head while I was trying to sleep at night, so I decided to take a break from the horror stories, but I want to try and read some horror books, and I can't really watch horror movies, well, I can but I need someone to watch it with me, I tried watching a horror movie once, but I couldn't get past the beginning, but I might try watching one the night of the homecoming dance, I'm doing Anti-homecoming that night lol. any recommendations for some Horror Books, or movies?

My daughter is like you, she has nightmares and scares easily. Maybe you should start with something lighter hearted like Shawn of the Dead or The Evil Dead for your film. Though Evil Dead is pretty dark in parts so never mind that one. As for books, what sorts of stories do you like best?

Maybe you'd like this one? It's a blend of horror but isn't nightmare material."
I like it!
