Oh Preacher, yeah thats some good stuff right there. I hear The Sandman might be in the works for a film. Wonder if they will link Lucifer with that somehow...could be fun. As for Strand, that guy's books are gonna get me in so much trouble...my wife is hooked and I keep buying the ebooks cause they are so easy to purchase on my Kindle and well my wife hates that but kinda loves it too since she enjoys his books as well. Loved Kumquat...so weird...not really horror unless ya get to the hot dog with PB&J on it...nasty since they forgot all about the marshmellow cream too ;) he he he he he

Char | 17501 comments My favorite Strand books so far are Dweller and Pressure, but Kutter is right up there too.
He is a Goodreads author and he's very cool.

message 1353: by Steven (new)

Steven (tbones) | 133 comments I now own all three of these so I am gonna have to get reading. I was able to find Pressure & Dweller at a new and used book shop out at the coast and I just got Kutter cause he posted it as on sale and I was all like "Hell Yeah!" Although I would have paid whatever...well not whatever price but close :) Yeah he is pretty awesome. I gave his name to my Crypticon peeps in hopes as they my talk him into coming out west for a convention some day.

Alex Ankarr (alexankarr) | 1 comments Hello! I'm Alex, and I write about wolves, werewolves, vampires, ghosts, all of that. Usually gay ones! (Or maybe m/m/f.) And I read practically anything! Love a good ghost story, quite keen on zombies. Looking forward to participating here!

Kathleen Connell (banshee_booker) | 3 comments Hello all! My name is Kathleen, Kat for my friends. I have loved scary horror and mystery novels since I was young. My older sister introduced me, at a bit too young, to the world of Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street. So, needless to say, I love the classics. I am a huge Stephen King fan and have read all of his books with the exception of onky the Dark Tower, which I am starting to gather now, and a few others that were ebook limited or not published widely. I also love anything to do with hauntings and true story stuff. Crime drama and history that can be scary and spooky too. I love Halloween and will ALWAYS dress up! As of now, I am a stay at home mom with a 3 yo energetic, smart and beautifully funny daughter. I am also a combat veteran and served in theMarine Corps. I am always looking for new books and stories to check out and love getting giveaways to review from independent authors as well. I have dabbled in writing my own stories in the past but have not yet finished them. This site has given me the motivation to revisit them and finish what I set out to do too long ago! Thanks all!

Welcome, Kathleen. Your story sounds very familiar. I also cut my horror teeth on Friday the 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street. Ahh the memories! Glad to have you in the group.

Haha, yeah...it made me do the " if every part of me is under the blanket, I'm safe" game for a bit but I soon came to realizeI enjoyed the adrenaline rush of being scared. I am looking forward to the new release and version of It. I just saw the first look at Pennywise from the new film and I gotta say I think it is going to be good.

HI, my name is Shawn Seward. I'm a splatter punk horror writer. You might ask, "Hey, what's splatter punk horror?" I would answer that by firing up my chainsaw, releasing your organs, onto the cold cement floor. As blackness spilled over your vision, you would see me jump roping with your wet guts.

Michael Thomas-Knight | 4 comments Hi, Mike here. I'm a horror fan that runs a horror blog, Parlor of Horror. I love horror movies, books, culture and collectables and some sci-fi too! In the 80s and 90's I was an avid reader of small press publications and horror 'zines' discovering unknown writers (at the time) such as DF Lewis and Thomas Ligotti. I also write horror and have been in many magazines and horror anthologies in the past few years. I like monsters foremost and ghosts/ghost stories second. I also like a lot of weird fiction. I look forward to discovering new authors and books thru this group.

Dan | The Ancient Reader (theancientreader) I'm Dan; 61 and semi-retired in Albuquerque, NM. Grew up in southern NM and lived in places from the West Coast to the East Coast and several in between for thirty-five years or so before settling here about thirteen years ago.

I'm an Acquisitions Editor for a small publisher. I get mostly the suspense/thriller and horror manuscripts with the occasional sci-fi, fantasy, or historical fiction thrown into the mix. To occupy my free time, I've recently started a self-directed course of study to expand my knowledge and experience base beyond that required to get a graduate degree in English.

My two favorite books are The Brothers K and House of Leaves.

I'm always open to chatting about books and to making new friends, so feel free to contact or add me.

Welcome to HA, clearly one of the best Horror discussion groups on the web.

MrsPyramidhead | 4 comments Hello! I've loved horror ever since I was a little kid peeking through my fingers when my older brothers were watching horror movies they rented. I love everything horror - video games, movies, books and collecting horror stuff. I enjoy testing my nerves and finding stuff that's truely creepy.

Christian | 0 comments Greetings from germany. I love books and stories, and one of my favorite authors happens to be Stephen King, so I guess I am a horror aficionado, among other genres.
Currently I am reading "Mr. Mercedes". Not exactly a horror story but a good read nonetheless, it seems.
Nice to meet you all. :)

Ian Sylus (ianksylus) Hello everyone, my name is Ian. I'm a father of three boys, fourth one is due in mid October. I'm an avid musician, and an indie author. Thus far I've put out one Horror/Psychological Thriller novel, though I write in whatever genre I feel fits for my current idea.

I freelance as an editor on top of my day job, where I manage a hotel (currently) in the Boston area.

My favorite horror book of all-time would have to be The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson.

Lauren ❦ Carpe Librum ❦ Hi, I'm Lauren. I love watching horror films but seem to struggle to find horror books that I like. I've tried reading some Stephen King before, but unfortunately he doesn't seem to be my cup of tea. Horror books that I have enjoyed include The Magic Cottage by James Herbert, Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, and of course, Dracula by Bram Stoker. I used to read a lot of kids' horror books when I was young but I just can't seem to find many adult horror books that I like. Would be great to hear some suggestions.

Ian Sylus (ianksylus) What do you guys look for most when perusing horror novels? What's the most grab-you-by-the-throat thing you've ever seen to drag you in? I find that when I read horror novels, it's more often than not because it has a previously established reputation, and rarely do the--dare I say--cliche covers and tag lines grab me in a way that does the story justice. What are your thoughts?

Ian, I suggest you check out the section "Getting to Know You." There, you'll find a thread "What Scares YOU?" I suspect you'll find some answers to your question there.

Rachel Bea (gekrepten) | 1761 comments Hi everyone, I'm so glad I found this group. I love horror, always have, nice to be around people who won't make me feel weird about it :P Anyway, I'm Rachel. I live in NYC currently, but I grew up in Rhode Island and New Mexico and those two places have informed a lot of what I'm interested in/inspired by (new england and the southwest are so different from each other but are rich with spooky histories)!

Lately I've been in a little bit of a gothic horror phase, but generally I read anything. For example, this past weekend I finished Uncle Silas, which I thought was pretty sinister and would make a good horror film! I also write spec fic short stories in my spare time.

Feel free to add me as a friend, I love having friends on this site! :)

Looking forward to discussions here!!!

Hey Sully, I myself was a bit stale on King, but he's always on point with his short stories. If you like short stories I would recommend 'Bazaar of Bad Dreams' collection. There's a great old time Baseball tale about a minor league team that ends in a twisted King-style knot, called Blockade Billy. I never read Woman in Black but should probably put it on my list. I like both adaptations of the movie.
