Introduce Yourself!
Greetings and salutations friendo Don.
From what I've gathered of your post, you're trying to find books/authors to start exploring horror? If you scroll through our board to the Recommendations, Authors and Novels sections you can see threads for the various subgenres and themes and see what people recommend.
You can always start with classics like Stephen King, James Herbert, Anne Rice, Robert McCammon or more modern like Paul Tremblay, Ronald Malfi, Josh Malerman, Grady Hendrix, C.J. Tudor to name some of my faves.
A good start might also be trying to figure out what interests you - ghosts and atmospheric horror; vampires, monsters, bloodier horror; Splatterpunk and even gorier horror. Though if your main experience is Goosebumps you may want to try the authors I've mentioned as they're more of the next step up in more adult horror, and generally can be found in library digital collections like Hoopla and Libby.

Alan thank you so much. I was more looking for anything, not just authors but locations to check stuff out. I'm basically starting from scratch trying to see what's out there and where it's at as I've seen people suggest Libby and Hoopla as possible places to start reading so I was not just asking about authors but places to find them once I did. I've heard of a few of those names so I'm looking to get everything I can to get going with diving into the reading world!
Hi All,Coming in from Augusta GA here!
I read a lot of things, mostly history, nonfiction, historical fiction and horror /psychological horror. One of my favorite authors in the horror/psychological horror genre is Stephen King. I also love Chuck Palahniuk and Neil Gaiman, although I'm not quite sure they could be included in this genre. They write a damn good mind-bender from time to time though!
I'm excited to be introduced to fiction writers that I may not have heard of. I really bother myself sometimes in that I get bored quickly with fiction but there are a handful of fiction writers that never fail me. I hope to find more!

Libby and Hoopla and other digital library resources should definitely have a decent selection of horror, just depending on your library's catalog. Best of luck!

Welcome, Don and Jodi! Alan gave you great recommendations, but I would like to second the library apps Hoopla and Libby. I have always loved libraries since childhood and simply walking in one feels like home....definitely explore your physical library too! Happy reading :)
Hi there. I write mostly dark fantasy with elements of horror, but I love horror. When I am walking in a reader's shoes, I devour horror. I am looking forward to learning about some gems I may have missed.
Hi. I'm Allen, but I go by the name Abbrah Kahdavver. I'm a reclusive, self taught writer, with a morbid fascination for anything horror related. I've written a few Short stories and put them on KDP, which I'm really proud of, even if they aren't very good.I'll probably just be lurking, but I may pop up from time to time.
Greetings and salutations friendo Jay.
I recently finished your Hanging Corpses collection I got from you at AuthorCon a few weeks ago!

Hi everyone! German horror fan here. I've read relatively little in the field, but seen a ton of movies. I'm not picky when it comes to the type of horror, but I like "literary" qualities. So I hope to learn some more and have some fruitful talks.
Hello, welcome additions to the group. I'm Aaron and always looking for new persons to talk/think horror fiction with. Best wishes.

Oh wow, that's great! I appreciate that so much.
Hi everyone! New to the group but been reading horror for over 30 years. I'm a big fan of atmosphere, and love a bit of folk and cosmic horror.
Hi there! My name is Matt and I am a public librarian from Northern Virginia. I run a virtual horror fiction book club called Read by Dawn, which meets monthly and covers a very wide selection of titles, from classic to modern. Always looking to see what my awesome horror pals are reading.
Hi,Ashak here, I've run out of Stephen King books to read, but am also a fan of vampire novels. If anyone has recommendations would love to hear them. I mean the more traditional vampire novels like Bram Stoker's Dracula, Salem's Lot or even Anne Rice's early novels were great.
Welcome to all the new members! Grab a virtual iced latte and hang out with the rest of us horror nerds :-D

So, long story short, for someone just starting out with this, what's the best way to do so? I don't have the time for a Kindle Unlimited subscription yet but I was looking more at Libby or Hoopla as a means of getting into this, but as I'm not familiar enough with anything yet beyond seeing these being the biggest recommendations I figured you were the proper audience to ask. Thanks for everything, and any and all recommendations for other alternative formats or titles to get started with would be appreciated!
