Hi, I’m Elyse. I have always been a huge horror movie fan but I just recently discovered how much I enjoy reading horror books. I’m very excited to see what’s out there.
@Elyse: Welcome as you came to the best place! I found so many new authors and novels in this group so I hope you also find some great ones, enjoy :-)
I’m Rob from leafy Buckinghamshire in the UK. I was an avid horror reader as a teenager and young adult but my reading has dwindled to next to nothing over the past twenty years with brief reading bursts with the Game of Thrones series, Last Kingdom books and the Dune prequels but last year the only book I read prior to December was a Bill Bryson travel book - tragic. This all changed when my wife bought me a kindle and I haven’t looked back. I set myself a challenge in December to read 24 books over the coming year (two a month) already on book twelve so should beat that no problem and not to read the same author twice in that period so I can get a real feel for all the good writers out there. I haven’t as yet read much horror even though historically that’s my favourite genre and have instead been jumping between post apocalyptic novels and sci fi with the exemption of Boys in the Valley by Phillip Fracassi which I enjoyed. I do though intend to read more horror and am keen to read through any suggestions within this group. All the best Rob.
@badseedgirl - no I haven’t really developed any particular liking for sub-genres of horror literature. I’m just seeing what’s out there tbh. All I really know about horror is from my teenage years with the likes of James Herbert, Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Shaun Hutson but I know they are just a tiny fraction of what’s out there.
@Rob: Welcome and I loved Boys in the Valley by Phillip Fracassi! You came to a great group, enjoy :-)
Hello! I'm Val, I'm 20 and I'm really into gothic horror in any form as well as revenge horror and splatterpunk! I'm joining HA to get more recommendations for gory books!
Hello I'm Kat, and I live in Colorado. I read mostly horror books, but like to read sci-fi/fantasy/romance as well. I love religious horror (I grew up in a quiverfull family, so lots of religious trauma here!). I work in electric engineering, but I have a lot of free time on my hands. When I am not reading, I am playing video games, embroidering, or selling clothes (I love thrifting!). Excited for some cool recommendations.
Cal wrote: "Welcome to the group Kat! What kind of games do you like or have you currently been playing?"Definitely play League of Legends almost daily with my husband. But I have been really enjoying Baldur's Gate 3 as well! How about you?
Robert wrote: "Welcome Kat- I like writing religious horror so any suggestions for reading g?"Hi Robert, thank you for the welcome. I just read The Exorcist for the first time ever last month and that takes the cake. But some other recommendations that lean into religious horror/cults are:
His Black Tongue - Mitchell Luthi
The Children of Red Peak - Craig Dilouie
The Exorcists House - Nick Roberts
Anathema - Nick Roberts
Definitely could use more recommendations myself! Do you have any?

I have heard good things about Balder's Gate! I don't know enough about League of Legends other than it has a huge cult following.
I just finished up Callisto Protocol and Alan Wake 2. Anxiously awaiting Alone in the Dark!

Baldur's Gate has to be the best RPG I have ever played. (Yes, even better than The Witcher Series)! If you get a chance, you should try it!
It definitely isn't a shock that you like horror games! I've played the first Alan Wake and I have a strong attachment to the Silent Hill Games. Specifically The Room. How was Alan Wake 2?
