My personal favorites as well!
Hi there! I'm Zoe (pronounced like there's a 'Y' at the end, it confuses some). I watched my first horror movie, The Shining, back in 2013 and I've been hooked to the gruesome and weird ever since. It's still my favorite movie of all time.
But my love for reading has sparked back up recently and I was given a hand-me-down Kindle, so I'm looking to fill my library! I just finished reading the first Laughers book by Charles Welch, which satiated the cravings for now, but I'm already on the hunt for the next read.
Excited to be here!
Hello! My name is Erin and even though I've been using Goodreads for over a decade I just discovered that there are groups. My favorite genres are horror, magical realism, and historical fiction, though most of my favorites combine these genres. My favorite authors that I recently discovered are David Sodergren, T. Kingfisher, Mona Awad, and Ronald Malfi. My favorite horror/horror adjacent books of all time are 2666, House of Leaves, and Blood Meridian. I like slow burn atmospheric horror, but I read anything from dark fairy tales to extreme horror. I'm currently reading Bad Cree by Jessica Johns and Making Wolf by Tade Thompson and I'm liking them so far.
@Robin: Wow, look at that! I was the same way, I always started multiple random-genre books at a time and never got anywhere. Thank goodness for this horror group and just learning how to be a better reader again so I actually completed and reviewed novels :-)I'm so glad you're back, yay! Yeah, I know exactly what you mean as I don't even game anymore, I get more joy out of reading and writing reviews. It's relaxing and such a fun hobby for me.
YES TO SUPERNATURAL HORROR! I loved "The Haunting of Hill House" by the legendary Shirley Jackson as that legit scared the hell out of me and genuinely freaked me out. Great choice!
@Zoe: Welcome! Ohhhhhhh, great choice with The Shining... what a crazy horror movie, eh? You came to a wonderful group, I found so many new authors and recommendations here, it's been fantastic :-D
@Erin: Welcome and very awesome! I recently got into T. Kingfisher as I love her horror novels! "A House with Good Bones" was so damn good :-D
LTJ wrote: "@Erin: Welcome and very awesome! I recently got into T. Kingfisher as I love her horror novels! "A House with Good Bones" was so damn good :-D"I have read four of her books, A House with Good Bones being the most recent. I love this chaotic coziness of her writing, lol. Also, she must be from the same area of North Carolina that I'm originally from, since most of her books take place there.
@Erin: That's so awesome! LOL yes, that's a perfect way to describe it... chaotic coziness and honestly, the way she writes horror is fantastic. It's so unique, freaky, creepy, and everything!Oh wow, look at that! That's pretty cool about the North Carolina part from it and I think she is from there as I could have sworn she said that in a podcast I heard a while ago she was interviewed on. LoL I love it when that happens anytime New York is mentioned in a novel :-D
Hello all!I'm M.T. O'Neill, author of The Fleshmarket Vampire, and the newly released Gothic Horror Fairhaven Falls. I'll leave a link in the usual Author Promo page, but I just wanted to say howdy to all my fellow horror fans! It's nice to find my own people in a corner of Goodreads!
Look forward to geeking out with you all! xxx
Hi, Im Courtney! I love horror stories but really love a psychological twist and a blend of horror movie television plus some reading. I'm pretty busy so am very selective on what I continue reading. But here are my top recent picks if you know of any recommendationsHead full of ghosts
Delicate Condition- which AMHS is based on!
@Courtney: Welcome and that's awesome to hear as I also love horror with that psychological twist to get that double whammy while reading.I haven't read either of those novels and will check them out, thanks for the recommendations :-)

Hello! =^.^=My name is Megan and I am new to the group! I like reading horror, thriller/suspense, and cozy mysteries. I recently read Lone Women by Victor Lavalle which I really enjoyed, and I am currently reading What Moves the Dead. I am hoping to get some good book recommendations from this group, as well as make some friends! Please feel free to add me if you’d like. :)
@Megan: Welcome and very cool! I'm the same way, I mostly read horror but also love suspense/thrillers, and some mystery as well (love Agatha Christie).Ohhhhhhhh, I loved What Moves the Dead, such an amazing horror novel. Enjoy and happy reading as I sent you a friend request :-)
Hi all, I'm Devan from NYC! I love a good horror story especially anything ghosty and spooky. If anyone has any unsettling ghost stories let me know!
Greetings and salutations friendo Devan.
Have you tried Daphne by Josh Malerman? It's about a vengeful ghost/boogeywoman.
