Horror Aficionados discussion
Introduce Yourself!
Hi all!My name is Jasmin and I'm in Oregon, US. I love being scared and enjoying a good horror book/movie. I have found that my favorite horror author thus far is Ania Ahlborn (The Shuddering was just too good and Brother was really good)! My favorite horror movie is Mama. I tend to gravitate to supernatural/monster horror. I can't wait to get some more recs! :D

Welcome, Jasmin!
@Jasmin: Welcome and awesome, same here! I actually have not read anything by Ania Ahlborn so I made note of this author to check it out :-)I'm a Nightmare on Elm Street kind of guy! LONG LIVE FREDDY!
@Jasmin: Welcome times two! LoL you picked THE BEST groups on Goodreads to join, we also have coffee to the left, french vanilla and blueberry scones :-)
@LTJ I'm glad to be joining the cool spaces! :) Coffee and a good spooky book is all that is needed!
Hello! my name is Marina and I found this group tonight while trying to decide how to best use a one-month freebie from Audible... I have always loved good horror, but I've only really started digging into deeper the last few years, for a multitude of reasons. I have enjoyed horror books of most sub-genres, though some are way more hit or miss for me, like slashers. I'd say my favorites are ones that make me think, or at least give a sense of unease, rather than just shocking me or grossing me out. My current favorite book is Annihilation, by Jeff Vandermeer, which I just finished my 3rd read. It has become an annual event for me, I guess.I'm always looking for new recommendations, and this group seems like a great place to find them! :)
@Marina: Welcome and that's awesome! I hope you find a great read for that one-month freebie from Audible. I'm the same way, love all different types of horror and as long as the story is good and has me immersed, that's all that really matters to me. I'm glad you found this group, it's an amazing one as I've found a TON of new authors and novels from the monthly group reads :-)Enjoy and happy reading/listening!

Blackwater by Michael McDowell
The Lesser Dead by Christopher Buehlman
Fantasticland by Mike Bockoven.

I'm thinking I'll probably get Swan Song and a Clive Barker one, but I'm not sure which, since I've never read one of his books, and his audiobooks are all only on Audible (I usually use Libby), so I want to choose the best one for me...

I used my last year's freebie credit for Blackwater, but I haven't gotten around to listen to it yet. Also with last year's freebie month, I listened to Fantasticland through the Audible Plus catalog and it really was great!
I hadn't heard of The Lesser Dead yet, but I just looked it up and there were no hits on Audible, but I found it on Libby, so it's added to the list! Thanks so much for the recommendation! :D
Hi, you guys can call me Ellie!Growing up, I loved reading about ghosts, monsters—you name it. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and Goosebumps were my classic go-tos when I was little. Now, I read more thrilling and suspenseful titles. I’m also a horror movie/true crime documentary junkie, and I’ll always try to find an excuse to watch anything intense. I haven’t been reading as much as I’ve wanted to, so I hope I’ll be able to build better habits by receiving insights and suggestions from all of you. 🫶🏼💕 I’m happy to be here!
@ellie: Welcome and awesome! LoL I also grew up and loved Goosebumps, I need to re-read some of those as the nostalgia is real! The reading habits will come over time as you came to the right place, the monthly group reads rock :-)
I am a prior member, back now that I'm reading more horror and weird fiction. I'm Randy from southern California but I go by RJ here since I seem to run into a lot of other Randy's on this site. Right now I'm reading The Woman in Black by Susan Hill and Rage by Stephen King writing as Richard Bachman.
Looking forward to meeting everyone and talking about books! Friend requests are always welcome except from authors looking to pimp their steampunk series or whatever.
LOL Welcome back, RJ! I recently re-read RAGE and it really didn't stand up to my recollection of it. I guess that could be because we've had so many school shootings since the time Rage came out. I remember being shocked by the story when I read it in my mid to late teens.
Hello, My name is Zoe and I'm from Virginia & Germany. I love horror, thriller, suspense, and all that dark genres! I am an aspiring novelist and short story writer (mostly paranormal and spirit stuff). I hope I can make new friends with similar interests and read awesome books!
Welcome to HA Ellie, RJ, and Andrew. If I have missed any other new members, I apologize and send a heartfelt greeting.
@Zoe: Welcome and very well, you came to the right place and good luck with your future writing, that is so cool! :-)
