Horror Aficionados discussion
Introduce Yourself!
Hello everybody. My name is Ivan. I am from Serbia. I am big fan of horror movies and horror books but I can read almost everything.
Glad to be a part of the group :)
Hi! I'm Roberto, 27 years old, Mexican. I love horrors movies. My favorites authors are Poe and Lovecraft. I haven't read a lot of horror books though, so I would like some recommendations. Greetings.
Welcome, Roberto! Hang out a while and I don't think you will have any problem getting some great recommendations. Kin by Kealan Patrick Burke wouldn't be a bad place to start.

Roberto, look no further. This place is an endless resource for all that is horror. Welcome aboard!

Thanks everyone. I'm glad I found this group. And thanks for the recommendation Bill, that book seems interesting, I will check it out.
Hello. I'm a middle school teacher, wrestling coach, and author who lives in New Jersey. My reading and writing interests are mostly sci-fi, dark fantasy, or horror (preferably a mix of all three). I read on my Kindle, write using Scrivener, and listen to many short stories through iTunes podcasts during my commute to work. Literacy is a lifestyle choice.
Hi.I have been a horror fan ever since I discovered Stephen King at age 11. However, my mum blames what she calls my "ghoulishness" on her seeing Exorcist while she was pregnant with me. I guess it was meant to be :D
Hey everyone, jus want to introduct myself again. Its been a while since ive been here and im pledging my allegience to this group lol I dont really know how to use goodreads so im safer if i stay in one place.

Doing good. Family's good. Work is ok and I finally got some reading time recently so I'm pretty happy about that.

Hi- I'm Jessica, and I am a reader, author, and researcher. RIght now I am investigating the relationship between reading preferences (genres) and cognition (imagination, judgments of possibility and permissibility, personality, morality, etc).We are creating a "test" that is meant to assess exposure to different genres. The reason I am here in this thread is that HORROR has been the most difficult to do. Partly this is because I dont read a lot of horror, although I enjoy it when I do ("enjoy"). Partly it's because many horror writers also write something else, and we can't use those...
so. If you would all be so kind, I have two favors to ask. First, I'd love to hear recommendations for authors that write exclusively horror.
Second, I am looking for readers of horror (serious readers, who are familiar with the genre) to take my online survey (~10-15m). Not sure if I can post links here, so I will try in a follow-up post, since I don't want to lose all I've written here.
Both things will be sincerely appreciated. Genre reading is seriously understudied in academia and we are doing our best to remedy this!
Here is the survey:https://ousurvey.qualtrics.com/SE/?SI...
In it, you will be asked such things as "Is it ever morally permissible for a couple to kidnap an infant and raise it as their own child? Will it ever be physically possible to travel to galaxies beyond the Milky Way?" You'll also be asked to identify authors and complete a few questionnaires.
You need 10-15m to participate, and you must be at least 18 years old.
Thanks!
I'm Caitlin. I've been on goodreads for a while and have been trying to be more active over the last year or two. I've always been a bit of a horror buff though more so with movies than with books. Other than stuff by Stephen King, I haven't really read much in the horror genre (unless you count the true crime books about serial killers that I've read)... mostly because I tend to be a bit picky and often times find it hard to find books in the genre that really appeal to me and manage to keep my attention. I tend to prefer things that will mess with my head more than ghost stories, monsters, and slasher type stuff.

There are others on here better suited to give you suggestions as I love the darker side of horror.
Here's a list of some psychological reads if that is what you are looking for> https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/...
Good luck and good reading!
Hi! My name is Reece and I live in the U.S. -Huntsville, AL. I'm 38, divorced and have two boys. I love to read -pretty much anything if it looks good or sounds good but my usual genres are horror, paranormal/supernatural, sci-fi, fantasy, dystopia/post-apocalyptic & mystery. I also love books with really unique settings. I spend most of my spare time reading, blogging & watching my boys ball games. This is the first year I've joined any groups so I'm fairly new at this group thing but I'm looking forward to reading with you guys & it's nice to meet everyone! : )
Hi gang, I''m Nate. I'm new here. Grew up reading Big Steve King like he was the greatest thing ever. and at the time, he was. Graduated onto Barker and a few others before moving on to splatterpunk. Then I became entranced by the hardboiled style of writing usually employed in the crime/thriller genre. Personally, I've been trying to merge the two great loves of my reading life together, but this is an ongoing effort. So, now that I'm among learned readers, I admit: the last couple of years I've been so heavy into writing I've fallen way behind on my reading. I need some help -- can anyone here recommend some of the "Holy S#$% You HAVE to Read This Book" horror books of the last couple years?
Thanks!
Hi Nathaniel,It was published 10 years ago, but a great horror book you may not have read is Let The Right One In by John A Lindqvist.
Welcome, Nathaniel! For a short one try Sour Candy by Kealan Patrick Burke. Kin is awesome as well. I pretty much recommend that one to anyone who will listen.
