Ami E. Bowen The word 'Grimalkin' actually means a domestic cat; especially an old female cat.

I wonder if Julie Kagawa meant his name to be that.

Ami E. Bowen She was probably just thinking of the 'cat' part of the name. It does sound more like a male name though. I think it'd be funny if a character were to point out Grim's name's meaning to him in a teasing kind of way. Actually, I can see Puck teasing Grim about the origins of his name. "Hey, Grim! Did you know your name; Grimalkin, actually means a female domestic housecat? That's hilarious!"
