Irma (waterfly89) | 14 comments Heya,

This isn't really a translation issue but I figured I might as well post here since it concerns a book in German. So I've got Pascal Mercier's book Lea in front of me but I have an unusual situation: the book has neither an ISBN nor an ASIN. It's identified with something called Buch-Nummer instead. I've tried googling a bit but the closest thing I could find was which might be this particular edition but, of course, the ISBN is members-only. :)

Here are some pictures:

Do any of you have experience with this type of book IDs? Do I add a new edition and write that number into the ISBN field or do I just leave the ISBN/ASIN field blank?

Liz Yanes (lizilena) | 265 comments I did a little research, and Buch-Nummer in english means 'Book Number' and is short for Internationale Standardbuchnummer which in english translates to International Standard Book Number, ISBN as we know it.

This is from a quick look-up I did on Google, but i hope it helps.

Irma (waterfly89) | 14 comments Haha. Thanks Liz but I don't think that's it. ISBNs have 10 or 13 digits whereas this "Buch-Nummer" only has 6.

Liz Yanes (lizilena) | 265 comments Can you provide the number please?

Irma (waterfly89) | 14 comments It's shown in the images I posted, both on the info page and the back cover. The number is 107874.

Koenraad (koenraadkelemen) | 5015 comments According to the info on the copyright page you provided it is a licensed edition published by a book club. RM Buch und Medien Vertrieb GmbH is the name they are registered with in the Trade register, but they are better known as Der Club (and earlier known as Club Bertelsmann).

These should be added without ISBNs or ASIN. Note "Book club edition" in the edition slot, and it's probably a good idea to add a librarian's note explaining that it lacks an ISBN. Example:

Irma (waterfly89) | 14 comments Brilliant, thank you so much Koenraad!

Koenraad (koenraadkelemen) | 5015 comments I did not know that myself, but the www helped to trace RM Buch und Medien Vertrieb GmbH, and rivka showed me how to add a book club edition that has no ISBN (

And so we all gain something from this :-)
